Not to be fussy, but her name was Missy Dandridge, and I have always wondered why she was even a character in the film? Was she buried in the Micmac burial grounds and came back more normal than others? Was she just a weak plot fill-in? Maybe she replaced Jed's wife from the novel....

She read the script and realized how ridiculous it was to not even include Norma in the film - and worse yet that her lame character basically ended up as the replacement.

Wait a minute... who am I here?

The movie version of Missy Dandridge is an amalgam of two characters in the novel--Norma, Jed's wife, and Missy Dandridge, who in the book was much younger and healthy, and was married to Steve Dandridge who was another campus doctor working with Louis. In the novel Missy becomes friends with Rachel but only makes a couple of appearances, and there was no housekeeper. I thought it was really strange that they omitted Norma's character entirely given that her death is such a major plot point, and even weirder that they'd take what was such a minor character, make he into the Creed's housekeeper and have her death stand in for Norma.

She had cancer if I remember right. She was complaining of stomach pains in her previous scenes and she wrote it in her suicide note. It's years since I watched this film though

You have that right.
Also, if there was a purpose, for the character, it had to do with her death and her funeral, and an opening for Judd to tell Louis more about the burial ground.
