Why couldn't Louis think about his still living daughter and move on?

I know this is a horror-movie and I know the feeling of wanting passed away loved ones to return to me. But Louis still had his daughter Ellen to take care off. In real life, people move on and take care of the ones of their kids that are still alive. Ellen was obviously as upset as her parents about Gages death. And yet they didn't seem to care about her. It was all about Gage. I love the book and the movie, but it would have made more sense if Gage was their only child.

Also, when Jud sensed what was going on after talking to Rachel over the phone, why didn't he just go after Louis and try to stop him? Instead of drinking himself into a stupor and fall asleep.

It indicated pretty heavily in the novel that Gage was his favorite of the two children, being his son and all, even to the point of putting him on a pedestal with these very fanciful, elaborate dreams and hopes.

Just finished the book and it was more the supernatural draw of the burial ground that got a hold of Louis once he had buried Church there. Jud believes that once you enter it gets a hold of you, and it was the cemetery that made Church go into the street, which then had Jud bring Louis there (Jud had originally buried his dog there), and then it was the power of the cemetery that made Gage get hit by the truck, and so forth. You get Jud's internal dialogue in the book about how he couldn't get himself to stay awake.

There was the supernatural draw, but it wasn't the burial ground, it was the Wendigo.

I think that Louis really did go insane after losing Gage; he was not thinking properly when he took his son up to the 'sour earth' to bury him; that's why Jud was feeling so guilty. Jud wanted to pass the secret on, when it was just a dead cat - but when Gage was killed, he realized what a horrible possibility he had opened up, for Louis.

Really not trying to be glib, but are you a parent? Read the book before you become a parent and after. The book is much, much more horrific when you are a parent because the grief would be unimaginable.

Rrishel, that was going to be my response. Has the OP had kids or lost a kid? Has the OP ever lost a loved one? You never just move on. My granddad died almost 10yrs ago and my heart still aches for him. All four of grandparents has died. You don't get over that. You accept it and live your life but you will forever be changed by a loved ones death. One my best friends from highschool died two years ago. Sometimes I still cry missing her. I can't accept she's gone.

Exactly Amy and Rishel. I thought the OP was a troll.

Yes I can imagine. I don't know personally from experience what it feels like to lose a child all I can do is imagine and that is very bleak. If I knew someone that lost a child especially a kid child and they brought up wanting to check this one out I would warn them to stay clear because of the depressing content. Now if they insisted on watching I can't stop but at least I informed them.

I read the book but watching the film I didn't get why the whole thing came about. Why did the old man have him bury the cat there knowing what would happen? Now if the old man had told him to bury the cat where the other pets were but Pascow's ghost told him to go to the Indian burial ground-that would have made more sense. Then again it made no sense why Pascow sought him out and showed him the burial ground in the first place.

It's like the evil of the burial ground gets hold of you and makes you do things you wouldn't normally do.
