Who did it!!!

We were watching this movie today, and had it in the DVR paused for a short bit. Right after Perry said THATS IT! and they were all to head over to the court house after the excop died, the dvr reset to the upcoming Matlock we were going to tape, so we missed the entire end of the movie!! Can anyone tell us who did it, and why? THANKS!
