The house

I personally think that the house used in the movie is perfect for the film. Even though it was a place for the setting, certain aspects of it lead me to believe it added effect. The abnormal up-down staircase, swirly lined kitchen wallpaper, slatted pantry door, and freezer room. Creepy yet perfect. If I ever made a movie I'd definetly try to get this place. Supposedly, it was filmed in Toronto, but the house looks like it's in Florida.

I think the house was as much a main character in the movie as the mom and dad are. It's very creepy and surreal. It looks seemingly normal at first, but the more you scrutinize it the stranger it becomes. Same thing with the parents. The house certainly added a great deal to the overall spooky, unnerving and mysterious tone of the film.

The house was located at 31 Greengate Rd. in Toronto. Sadly, it was recently torn down and replaced by a very ugly mansion. However, the house next door to it at 29 Greengate is nearly identical to the house used in Parents.

Crazy how in only 20 years almost all of the neighborhood homes were replaced by those hideous mansions. Only two houses are in their original form, I wonder if the neighbors pressure them to rebuild. It's a shame I really love mid-century ranches.
