Something about it vaguely reminds me of "Edward Scissor-hands"

Oddly enough, I found Parents reminiscent of Invaders From Mars (1953).

In that a young boy is the sole witness to a flying saucer landing. His once loving father becomes cruel and abusive when the Martians take control of him and the film is from the boy's point of view; full of stark angles that convey the boy's sense of isolation.
However, this was made in 1953 so do expect silly martian costumes, a clean-cut all-American hero and is pretty "apple-pie" girlfriend and other troupes of the era. Not only that, but its a less ambiguous film than Parents.
