The film was clearly implying... (spoilers)

...Michael is going to grow up to be a serial killer. I mean, besides the ending, it establishes he's possibly mentally unstable and displays creeper behavior. This movie could easily have been a prequel to a number of slashers. I'd even argue it's not necessary for the cannibalism to be literally occurring, just a fantasy showing Michael is disturbed even at a young age (and that it's possibly genetically inherited).

I disagree. Michael was the total opposite. Typically, serial killers growing up will display aggressive, violent behavior towards the living, (i.e killing small animals, violence, etc.) Michael was very passive. I agree, he could POSSIBLY turn out to be a messed up kid but not in a serial killer kind of way. If anything, he will display periods of depression which could possibly make him suicidal due to his traumatic past.

I know that's how serial killers in real life typically behave, but I was thinking more of a slasher movie sort of serial killer, where they typically snap due to bizarre/traumatic events in their childhood even if they don't seem to have inherent violent tendencies (I'm thinking of "Pieces" and "Don't Go in the House" as specific examples)
