They are saying on the board for the TV series that Gil and Karen's baby had Down's Syndrome. I never noticed that before although have seen the move numerous times. Can anyone confirm or deny? Any quotes from Ron Howard or anyone else in a position to know for sure, other than someone's perception of what the Baby looked like? I just looked at the final scene on Netflix, and it does look very possible, but I have never heard this mentioned before! Seems kinda important.

Last night we watched this movie for the first time in years, and when they were holding the baby up at the end I said to my husband that the baby looked like she had down's syndrome. I figured it just happened to be the baby that they used.

I also cry every single time, after Helen gives birth and everyone is kissing and hugging, lol.
But, from the very first time I saw this movie, I also believed the new baby of Gil and Karen had Down's Syndrome.
Her eyes looked slanted to me, and that is probably the #1 physical sign of babies with Down's.
this is me exactly. have seen this so many times. starting when i was in my late twenties and trying for four years to conceive. cried every time i watched. and without any blink of an eye, always thought of Gil and Karens baby as having Down's. Also, I always try and get the chronology straight...Karen had announced she was pregnant, due in February. Julie had announced as well. But their baby looks like a newborn and Karen's looks about 6 months old, then there is Helen just giving birth and Susan is hugely pregnant...Love the sentiment and don't let it spoil the emotions of the ending for me but can never wrap my brain around how it all unfolded in a timeline...(P.S. love Keanu Reeves in this!)
shareJust watched the movie for the first time in years, and that baby definitely looks like one with Downs. I felt no doubt, particularly since Karen was then shown looking at the new baby born and getting a little emotional in a sad way. Her face was sad yet Gil "geed her up" and she smiled again.
She had said she liked life being a roller coaster, and having a baby with challenges would perfectly fit the bearing-out of that.
i never noticed but it could be right-i always thought karen was just crying with happiness at all the new babies in the family-not because her child had downs
shareShe was crying with happiness, whether her newborn had Downs or not. Are you kidding me? she was an exceptional woman and would not have been so shallow as to cry because her child was born with a disability.

I always thought the baby looked like she had Down's too.
I am not a troll, but I believe in them since I see them every day on IMDB.
I just finished watching the movie and I never once thought that baby looked like he had down's. I've seen the movie multiple times and never thought that.

I come from a family rife with Down's Syndrome - many 1st, 2nd, and third cousins have it - their child did not look like it had Down's Syndrom, at all. Just rewatched the movie today and even though I saw the movie hen it first cwme out (sans kids), I've since seen it numerous times and it still cracke me up, and I still cry at the final scene. Wonderful movie.
