I get MOST of this film but what about that weird radio thing....

in the candle room? What was that all about. And what's the symbolism of her ogre-father beating her then getting hammered in the neck? I guess the beating might have been her dream interpretation of chest-compressions, though this is never shown and her illness didn't really seem life threatening.
