How Do So Few People Know About This?

I'm perpetual aghast that so few people - along with film scholars - seem to be aware of this incredible film. I rented it on a total whim (mostly because of the box art) when I was maybe seven or eight years old, and it scared the absolute bejesus out of me.

I'd love to see a Criterion treatment of this.

I think it's wonderful.
I don't know why but I thought she was older, somehow. A teenager. I just read that she was supposed to be 11.
Maybe it's too unusual, not sensational enough, intense but not stereotypical; I can't understand why so few are aware of it either. I've mentioned it before and no one seems to have seen it.
