I didn't like it either. I have seen both versions - Kinski's original cut and that of the producers. I like Kinski as an actor but not a director. This film is amateurish. The character of Paganini is completely superficial. There is no explanation as to why he chose to express himself via the violin. The lead characterisation is shallow. All I learnt from this film is that he was a sex maniac and that he loved his son. It also implies that he was a miser. That's about it.
