The books declined, the fims disintegrated

The long-running Gor books began with three pretty decent fantasy novels, then quickly dropped down in quality. The films, however, leaped into mediocrity right out of the gate. There were a lot of sword & sorcery films of varying quality in the 1980s, but the Gor films bear little resemblance to the books. Gone are the giant birds, the Tarns, that the warriors of Gor ride. Gone also are just about every other fantasy creature included in the novels. The movie borrows a few names, but is basically just a formula fantasy film. We've seen it all done before, and done better.

The movie may be complete crap, but it does make for one great MST3K episode.
"He's got soul patches on his back"
"First we baste him in real creamery butter"

Cabot says something like, "I swear that I will free all the slaves." then does nothing. Did that happen in the books too?
