Watney's testimony?

After Marelnus was murdered and Queen Lara accused Cabot of the crime, Watney gave testimony she had nothing to do with it by saying "She was with me last night." This is a lot like saying, "She's innocent of betraying her husband, because she was busy with me boning her all night. The defense rests."

We've all met clueless professors, but how could Watney ever believe that B.S. testimony would hold up under scrutiny? I mean, forget that it actually did and no one questioned it. Is Gorean culture that different from ours, that something like that wouldn't throw up a red flag? Or--in your esteemed opinions--is it just crappy writing?

The worst part was the ending. Just because Watney changed his testimony, out of no reason whatsoever, the hunter killed Queen Lara and all her loyal guards just stood there. So unreasonable.

1. Why would they trust Watney?
2. Why did Hunter killed Queen Lara. She hired her and paid him well.
3. Why didn’t the guards protect Queen Lara.
4. Why didn’t the guards do something after seeing him killing Queen Lara?

I think most were not loyal to her. And mostly followed the person with the most power. And the people were not happy that slavery was back in that town. It did still exist everywhere else though.

I don't understand why the Hunter ruined Queen Lara's body. He was paid... Why did he care about politics?

I think the guards and everyone saw that Lara was loosing the brief power she had and liked Tarl Cabot because he was a hero to them. Her priest was gone and didn't have the magic and secrets he had so she was just a woman sitting unclothed on a thrown.

Gor is a very different place from our sensibilities. It could of been that a woman was just claiming to be a ruler over men. She was not wearing silks so she wasn't property of a man and wasn't covered. Really women showing skin means they didn't have an owner. So she didn't ever really have power on gor. That's just in the books though.

This movie was just Gorean by name and character names. The rest is not. Well the servant girls I guess are dressed close to how women are required to dress at home.
