Holman IN is really Hammond IN in Jean's Stories

The town in the film A Christmas Story. Is really the town which is now Hammond Indiana. A town of about 80,000 people near Chicago and Gary. Why Jean changed the name to Holman I am still not sure why. If anyone knows please post it. There are a few famous actors and writers from Hammond Indiana althoe Jean is from South Chicago, IL. Some famous people from Hammond Indiana are:

* Michael Badnarik (From News stations and such)
* Tim McKinney (from the Tv show Always A critic and other stuff)
* Paul Beller (From Desperate House wives)

And others as well.

The correct spelling of the fictional town is “Hohman.” The name comes from Hohman Avenue which runs through Hammond.

When Shepherd’s stories were published in Playboy in the mid-1960s, the name Hammond was used. When the stories were first collected in book form in 1966, the name became Hohman. I’ve always assumed that Doubleday’s lawyers were more skittish than Playboy’s. The community center in Hammond is named for Shepherd, so I guess everyone’s happy now.

James Edwards, actor in such movies as Home of the Brave, The Manchurian Candidate (original), Patton, et al is from Hammond.
Irv Cross former NFL safety is a Hammond native.
Jules Powers former TV producer, Frank Reynolds former ABC news anchor, David Winner former CBS sports producer also from Hammond.
Shepherd, like me, was born in Chicago but grew up,like me, in Hammond.

Can you blame them for being cautious? Indiana has a history of getting a little pissy when the people here are portrayed...well...the way they really are.
