best movie of all time - period. (explained)

buddy duo

insanely awesome action

non stop thrilling

gripping

the soundtrack is the most amazing one ever put on film

distinct aspects like the "water fall climbing" scene and the alligators. not to mention the method of taking out the camp using the crossbow and the whole escape from police on motox scene. aswell as the arm wrestling. and the monk fight scene. and the fighter getting eaten in the alligator pit.

great character development scenes - the gym (loren and cynthia) the nightclubs (loren and max). also great fantastic character names: scott wylder. terri. sulin. mac. brilliant. also brilliant casting. every character was immaculate.

the greatest showdown ever in any film (martial arts or other)

missing this movie is like missing one of the most beautiful things created on earth.

+

insanely memorable dialogue:

"hey man, drugs are a deadly trip. you know?"

"didn't anyone ever teach him the difference between hospitality and hospitalize?"

and last and greatest:

"were in a deep hole we're gonna need a packed hand to get out of it"

"how about... a royal flush!?" *loren avedon kicks a cauldron of boiling water into the bad guys*

the dvd release has alternate soundtrack that wrecks the film. try and find the VHS release only.

reply

It seems the best release of this film is the Australian VHS. Which not only is an extended cut but also features the good version of the soundtrack.

Any way to find it in that version on Dvd or some download place?
(Love the scene with the russian ammo dump and the woodn chest that says "made in the U.S.S.R."!!! Sooo cool! This movie is GOLD!
But I think I have the bad soundtrack version. Not to cool music.

Have u ever felt the fighting presence of another?

reply

I can mail you one if you like. I have ripped the Australian Extended CUT VHS version to DVD.

How can I go about getting one? I love this movie.

Where abouts do you live? I'd only want money for the postage and a dvd blank cost. spreading this low key masterpiece is the reward in itself.

I live in Massachusetts. If you'd like, I've got a bunch of rare movies on DVD myself and maybe we can do a trade of some sort. If not, I've got no trouble with compensating you for said expenses.

agreed!

bottlebank says 'A blistering intense rollercoaster of an action flick! 10/10

I agree that No Retreat No Surrender 2 is one of the best movies ever made. Sure it's low budget, and the acting is a bit cheesy, but it's still one of the best action/martial arts films ever. It's one of the most ambitious action/adventure movies ever filmed, and almost everyone I used to show it to loved it. Heck, even my parents used to watch it. It's just a good entertaining movie from start to finish. It has a good story, likable characters, kick ass music, amazing action/fighting, and a lot of different settings. It balances action, drama and comedy perfectly. It's almost twenty years old, and I still don't feel that a better action movie has been made since.

Agree with you 100%! Also the most memorable line will have to be "You can't arrest me, I'm an American!"

Also the villain is very scary, big, tough and brutal!

I got bought this for Xmas on VHS when I was about 7! I must have watched it well over 100 times as a child, but I completely forgot about it and god knows where it is now!

I'm on a mission to find this again because it is GOLD. I can't wait to watch it again but if the above is true and the soundtrack had been changed I agree it will probably ruin it for me because everything about the movie is so nostalgic!!

Australian VHS release, is that FILMPAC? I have that and the Australian DVD release from the NRNS box set. I wish they made a new transfer from the negative some time.

That's right, it's distributed by FILMPAC.

Hey Bad Habbit, is there a good resource on this film somewhere? If not someone should start one. I think part three is the best but I love part 2. You should also check out Tiger Cage 2 with Donny Yen. Its got Richard Yuen music that turns up in KOTKB. Some great fights.

Wow I love king of the kickboxers. I'll check it out. Thanks!

It needs a special edition DVD with Loren avedon , David spear, roy horan and Mathias hues, max thayer and Cynthia rothrock audio commentary track. Also a separate subtitled conmentary with Corey yuen.

reply

Dam right it needs those things. If I had the money i would go over to the USA and shoot all those extra features including audio commentary. I would do it for free, have it authored and it could replace the dodgy editions. These films need to be restored as well. I watched this again about a week ago and its so enjoyable, kicks the azz of most films like this. watching it is so sureal because it is a Hong Kong action film at heart. Avedon is the unluckiest action star, he should have gotr lots more work but atleast he got to star in the two this and Blood Brothers (NRNS3) which I believe almost tops this film.

One Australian film I really want to see is The Man From Hong Kong.

yeah I own The Man From Hong Kong dvd....it was pretty weak...wasn't as good as I thought it would be....I been watching some Loren videos on youtube where he talks about raging thunder....he said his favorite films were raging thunder and blood brothers.....I still kept my VHS which I begged my mum to buy from Target back when I was 7 or 8
