Who was better, Nancy or Alice?

Personally I think both are great, but I might even give the edge to Alice, I thought she was great.

I love them all, it's honestly hard to choose.

Just because we lose today's battle doesn't mean we've lost tommorow's war.

Apples, oranges and pears. I like Nancy, Alice and Kristen for different reasons. Each character brought different qualities to the franchise. Is it just me though, or did they make Nancy in the remake a lot more like Alice than like original Nancy?

reply

I liked both, but Nancy really was better. Perhaps maybe because she was in the first one though

Alice

Nancy was just a smart girl. I think Alice was Freddy's polar opposite.

Alice was clearly better because Lisa is a much better actress than Heather

On what planet? Look I love the character of Alice, but Lisa was pretty weak in Dream Master, and though much improved in Dream Child, didn't even begin to touch Heather Langenkamp's performance in New Nightmare.

lisa performance in dream master was equal to nancy in part one they both had weak moments but alice was a much better developed character heather was just in the better films as a character alice was an is more interesting as for acting in dream master lisa acting is not so much better then heather its just the character is more interesting an more fun to watch heathers acting in 3 is weaker then either of lisas performances but her acting in new nightmare was the best of the seriers

I am gonna be hated. But I actually hated Alice. She just came off as arrogant. Loved Nancy. She faced Freddy and was brave. But it didn't seem like she took him lightly or acted like she was invincible as Alice did.

Same for Kristen. So, Alice is a least favorite, or should I say most hated. She was fine at the end of DM. But DC.....

I liked all the other heroines of the series...Sans Lori in F v J. She was just...eh. But Maggie, Tracy, Nancy, Debbie, Kristen, Taryn. All of them were nice.

Well, technically speaking, she was invincible when facing Freddy. Freddy needed Alice alive in both NOES4 and NOES5.

For NOES4, killing her meant he'd no longer have anyone to bring him new victims. Sure, he'd get her soul but then then he'd be...well, done. He already killed the last Elm Street child. When killing Kristen, he was honestly lucky she just happened to be besties with the good Dream Master so Alice could get her powers. Otherwise, Freddy would have no where to go. The criteria for where he can go in the dream world is his victims have to either A.) Be the children of those who killed him or B.) For him to already be in that person's dreams due to odd circumstances, such as being brought in by a telepath. No one else fits the bill but Alice so the second she dies, Freddy dies too...

In NOES5 it's the same deal but he needs Alice alive to give birth to Jacob. It would be kinda hard for Freddy to use the dreams of an unborn child to bring him an new batch of victims if the person carrying the child is killed before she can give birth to said unborn child. In other words, Freddy kills Alice, he also kills Jacob thus killing himself. Alice, again, is invincible.

I love both movies but the stakes are only really high for everyone who isn't Alice. Until Freddy gained the power to enter any dreams of those who fear him, he was stuck with Miss Johnson and she was having none of his crap after NOES4...

Dead heat, although Alice has the edge because she fought Freddy twice and lived to tell about it.

But you can't discount Nancy; she was the first heroine. Unlike Alice, Nancy didn't have stories and town mythology to research and rely on in her battles against Krueger. With Nancy, everything was based on her own wits, instinct and what was happening at the moment. Nancy always seemed like she was in more immediate danger, and could be killed at any minute if she wasn't careful. Half the time it didn't seem like Alice was in all that much danger because Freddy usually wasn't after her, but was rather using her to get to others. But I like that Alice didn't come off as timid or afraid as the others before her. With Alice, it seemed more like a cocky rivalry she had with Freddy, where they were both trying to one-up the other for control of the overall situation...and it was enjoyable.

This is why I like Nancy more, for those exact reasons. Nancy had to go it alone from scratch where Alice had the edge with friends knowing about Freddy - even if Alice didn't believe them at first, that is still an advantage over nothing at all.

I will say that I think both Nancy and Alice were considerably weaker in their second appearances in the series. Both were fierce and a force to be reckoned with at one time, but in their next appearance, I thought they were both weakened and very out of character. Alice only survived that long because Freddy needed her - and even at the end of part 5, Amanda tells Jacob that Alice won't triumph, meaning she would have met her end in round two just like Nancy did.

Nancy <3 But I love Alice too and she's my 2nd favorite of the series :)
