Scorsese's best

Actually, I feel that "Life Lessons" is among Scorsese's best films, and certainly one of the best films to show an artist at work. It's a shame that there aren't more chances for directors to do 30 - 40 minute films, as the format allows to develop characters without having to add on too much plot. Nolte is great.

I absolutely agree and have since 1989. I've posted at length about this short.

I'm not going to gush about it righ now as I don't think I've posted about any flick as much as this short.

Agreed. Absolutely wonderful and underrated. Scorsese portrays Nolte has a man of power, lust, and artistry. I love the edits and cinematography: especially the Bob Dylan "Like A Rolling Stone" sequence, Scorsese is painting with his camera. I love how "A Whiter Shade of Pale" is looped so hauntingly for the main character and iris shots are beautiful too!

I feel like watching this movie again come to think of it.

The guy lives in a trailer with his mommy. He's not allowed to watch PG13 films. He says, "I don't know much 'bout them skewls and things"

I agree it may be his best and certainly it ought to be mentioned right alongside Raging Bull. I also think Nolte's performance stands next to De Niro's. Which is saying something.
