Life without Zoe

Well there are plenty of things in the movie that indicate the film is a fantasy or dreamlike world. Ranging from subtle little things to blatantly obvious things like the way they talk to her. Life in the city shown here draws on many stereotypes and the school seems to be set in a rural area.

The mood feels like it sets a theme of child-like fantasy world but there is alot to suggest undertones of people suffering for no reason. I feel that the film is like a fantasy of life from the mind of a slightly older girl in poverty.

I agree that there is a fantasy-like element, but I dont' think there is anything to suggest Zoe isn't as wealthy as is illustrated. She probably elaborates stories in her mind because she is so lonely and has no proper parental figures.

It's pretty common for children of rich families in New York City to attend schools that look like little rural liberal arts colleges. She attended Fieldston, one of the three big private schools in the posh Riverdale section of the Bronx. The students there are generally the children of people in the arts.

I could've lived my whole life without Zoe quite happily. What a freakin' disgrace that the pointless musings of FFC's spoiled daughter were attached to such masterful work by MS and WA.

It felt like it wasn't real because of poor writing and terrible acting, not due to an attempt at creating a fantasy world.
