It's like they ran out of ideas and just recycled the Bat in the house gag from The Great Outdoors, except I could realistically see someone freaking out over a Bat (it could have rabies) and it was actually funny.
shareWell squirrels can have rabies too. They're also fucking fast and you never find them inside the house. So if someone finds one in the house and it's acting aggressive in any way, I can see people freaking out.

That, and the fact that humans freak out over small fast animals, like rats, mice, spiders, etc. Oddly, if that wasn't a squirrel but a very young bear cub, they would have probably fawned all over it.
No rhyme or reason to how humans react to things.
It’s not a big deal, and that entire sequence was just lame and childish
shareA squirrel got into our house one time through the ductwork of the water heater. I was out of town but by all accounts the damn thing knocked stuff off shelves and the fireplace mantle. It was racing all over the house and my wife was freaking out. She called animal control (lol) and they came, opened the doors, etc and thought it ran out. It turns out it was sitting on top of one of the blades of a ceiling fan and even it jumped off and at them. They finally caught it with my fishing landing net. I almost pissed myself laughing when I got the phone call with the story. Freaking out is an understatement!!!
