Interesting fact

The Japanese laserdisc of "Moontrap" runs longer than the R-rated US version in several dialogue scenes.

Have you seen this version? If so what was the extended stuff?

They GOTTA put 'Moontrap' on DVD!!!! I loved it!

reply

Yes, I have seen it. Quite a few scenes on the moon surface are longer, and the dialogue between Grant and his son is longer (Grant makes some remark about "Godzilla" to his son in the Japanese version after hanging up the phone).
Interestingly, the German version has the longer moon scenes too, but the entire scene between Grant and his son is missing for some reason.
DVD would be great, but even if they make one which seems unlikely due to some weird rights issues, I fear it's going to be the usual R-rated version...

He mentions Godzilla in the American version too. He is about to leave and then says to go watch that Godzilla movie or something like that.

I taped this off of Cinemax in the 1990's. All of the above-stated scenes (absent from the, what I assume to be referenced, American VHS) release are included.

The "Godzilla" remark is absent from my US laserdisc of the film (which should have the same content as the US VHS)... I guess the UK, Dutch, and French versions also are of the longer version.
