I know this is probably a bit late for most people... but looking at that german DVD, it looks like the documentary is just a general 'Roland Emmerich' documentary. Can anyone say how much of it is actually dedicated to Moon 44?

Having watched the film again recently, I'm tempted to do my own edit. Mainly to get rid of that boardroom scene at the beginning. You really get the feeling it was added at a late stage because producers (or somebody) thought the plot wasn't clear enough from the rest of the film (even though it was), so they thought they had to spell everything out up-front. If you watch it, all of the effects footage of an attack on another moon, is simply re-edited stuff from later. Also, the intro text just before that scene includes the year, which it does again when it cuts to Michael Pare waking up during his ship's landing. THAT scene feels so clearly like the natural beginning to the film. Anyone else think so?

I must admit, watching it again, I think it's a great little forgotten 80s SF. Sure, it's not perfect. There's some bad acting (mostly Eichhorn), occasionally dodgy editing and such, but it's great fun overall. And I must admit, I absolutely LOVE the effects. It's a great example of how to do good stuff with a low budget, by using your imagination and style. All the old tricks are used to hide the low budget of the effects, and they work well. I remember as a kid when I saw this, I was so impressed with the helicopter battles, I had to go and make model ones from lego lol! If somebody made an equivalently low budget film now, they'd use CGI, and without a big budget it wouldn't look half as good or stylish.

I just wish the film had a little extra at the end, because it feels so abrupt when he walks out of the boardroom.

I completely agree. I am amazed at how little recognition this film has gotten over the years.

I think in time the audience for this film will be found.

I watched this when it first came out and i liked enjoyed watching it So i was very surprised to find it on sale at an Asda supermarket for a quid! So i snapped it up straight away.

Good find. I borrowed my friend's VHS copy that he picked up at a thrift shop. For some reason, this film has not made it to DVD. A good reason to keep your VCRs or pick up a spare off of eBay, by the way.

You can buy it on Dvd on Amazon. They're poor fullscreen versions though, and this film needs to be seen in widescreen.

I recently watched it in widescreen, and the titles at the start were in German, so maybe there's a German Dvd out there. Or it could have come from German Laserdisc.

[Edit] I was just told that there is a German Widescreen Dvd available.

That's really awesome. Any DVD extras such as commentary tracks?

No commentary, just a 43 minute documentary and some trailers. I've no idea how easy the Dvd is to get hold of.

Here's the site I use to find the best available versions of a film on Dvd ; http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=14064

It says there's a UK widescreen Dvd too.

Not bad at all..a decent b-movie...

I liked this cheasy flick. Guess because I always liked Brian Thompson in just about everything he has done. And I am a Sci-Fi movie buff.

I really liked this movie. I seen it when I was younger it aired on the space/sci-fi channel in the late 90's. I thought it was pretty decent for an action sci-fi B movie of the 90's. It should get more credit. Its good along with Freejack and Total Recall.

Looked around for about a month online, couldn't find anywhere a WIDESCREEN DVD for purchase of this movie. Every retailer mostly has the FULL SCREEN version and used copy, have seen only a few brand-new condition, but price they were asking was too much $35 and up USD for 1:33 RATIO *full screen*

Ended up picking a fairly good USED DVD quality of the movie. Released by ARTISAN in 2001. Unfortunately it has no commentary or extras like other people were saying. Just a plain REGION 1 DVD with menus and chapters, nothing fancy its in FULL SCREEN and DOLBY STEREO AUDIO. Would love a widescreen version but haven't found one for R1 ENGLISH on the web. :( Anyone have the widescreen?

Happy at least I can add it to my SCI-FI DVD collection!!

Good movie to sit down and watch and enjoy to kick back with some good sci-fi action, it should get more credit. Done well for its time and budget.

Is it feck you dumb prick. Was cack back in 1990 and its an even bigger pile of cack now.

Some the best movies ever made are "cheap." And some of the most big budget "epics" are total garbage. No amount of money can buy talent. Only Hollywood thinks that a good movie can be made simply by throwing a lot of money around..
