setting for the mighty quinn

I've been to Jamaica twice, and it seems like this movie was shot there... but I'm not completely sure. If anyone can verify, I'd appreciate it.

AFAIK The island is never named in the film. It's supposed to be a generic caribbean island. They didn't do a very good job though, all you see is Red Stripe Beer, Appleton Rum etc.

The showdown at the end is at a ruined mansion called Folly outside Port Antonio, on the northeast coast. Legend has it the mansion, built around 1900 by a U.S. millionaire, fell into ruin after his wife hated it. More likely it was caused by seawater being used to mix the concrete.

I think the rest of the movie was shot around Port Antonio and the hotel in the opening sequence I'm fairly sure is Trident Villas.

It's a cool movie and brings back memories of the Jamaica I used to hang out in in the '70s and '80s.

Seawater has been used to mix concrete for centuries. The only problem comes when you use it with steel reinforcements, which it causes to rust. To this day, seawater can be used in concrete mixes depending on the type of aggregate used.

If this mix had been the problem, the thing would not have been standing almost 100 years later.
