Shocked

Good day.

I recently was recommended this film by a fellow member of my church. She claimed that it was a great movie for children; which I have 3. First of all, let me tell you that I am STRONGLY Christian and am raising my children to have very strong Christian values and belief in our God. The animation looked cute but the cover struck me as odd because it showed a cute girl flying on a broomstick. I naively ignored this and put the video into the VCR for my children and me to watch; I regret this DEARLY. The film started and she claimed she was leaving to be a witch. I was so shocked when that infernal feline started talking, that I IMMEDIATELY unplugged the television and told my children to go to bed and pray to God for forgiveness. Witchcraft is a disgusting tool of the devil and in this case is even more disgusting for being hidden in a supposed children's film. Do not allow your children to watch this; as it is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Sincerly,

Margaret Fisher.

Even if this person is trolling, I have met, sadly, people who would react in a similar way. I met a girl whose parents prohibited her from reading the Harry Potter books and other potentially objectionable books. It was depressing: the parents would look through a book or movie before allowing their daughter to see it, and this girl was in her early teens, the perfect time to start reading books for yourself and discover worlds that do not quite match your own.

Margaret, witchcraft isn't real. The people out there claiming to be witches and wizards are either fooling themselves or decided to follow some different belief system. They are just like you or me: they might help an old lady with her groceries, they have jobs, they pay taxes. Anyway, that isn't the point. This movie is about a young girl venturing into the world, using her skill to help others around her. No devils, no Walpurgis Night, no pentagrams, no virgin sacrifices or orgies. If you really insist on overprotecting children from anything that could potentially be misinterpreted as evil, do what those parents did and watch the movie for yourself before jumping to conclusions. You might even learn something.

@AmndIks: Here here! Very well put!

Margret, if you had bothered paying attention to the first 10 to 15 minutes of the film before overreacting the way you did, you would have heard that Kiki isn't leaving home to become a witch, she already is one and is leaving her home to train for a year to improve her powers. The only "power" Kiki has in the film because she hadn't trained in anything else was flying so she became a delivery girl. A harmless career choice. As AmndIks put it, try watching the film yourself (without any preconceived notions) and then decide whether you'll let your children watch it. But coming on here just to express your disgust with how evil you think it is (which is not only ridiculous but silly that you think strangers will care) doesn't make you look like the better person.

It's a children's film. It's supposed to be entertaining for young children as well as teach them good morals with a character they can relate to.

What's not scary is if this comment is for real or not, but rather that there really are people out there with such warped views...I can't for the life of me understand people objecting to "witchcraft" as if its real! I went to a Christian university that was at least progressive enough to (generally) see that kind of thinking as nonsense, but remember a classmate of mine once loudly proclaiming Harry Potter as "evil". Just...scary.

VeggieTales is about talking vegetables. How is that any better than a talking cat? Vegetables are not even supposed to have faces.

Sounds as a fake/troll to me. But there are so many people in the world...

Thought I don't believe this is true in the slightest if it is I'll just say this. Good for you brainwashing your children. Enjoy being part of a group that hindered science for over two thousand years and advocated and grew slavery to it's extremes. Oh btw the earth is not flat.
