i really liked this movie

my husband bought this movie yesterday...i actually thought it would be stupid but when i watched it,it turned out to be a great movie!

reply

yea, just saw it and lot better than i thought it was too

reply

I haven't seen this movie in about 10 or 11 years, but I still remember it as being a great flick. It was definitely way more than I would have expected from a non-Rocky Stallone movie. And of course Donald Sutherland helped keep things on the up and up.

I don't understand why this movie is only rated 5.4. I'm sur ethat people only see here a SLY move. If instead of Stallone, Tim Robins or Denzel Washington was on it, I'm sure the rank would have been around 7.5

Sly does a great work in this movie, with great dialogs, great music and all. We shouldn't be unfair with him.

Some people are really weird, such a great movie and 4 or 5 on 10.

reply

Yes, I actually thought it would be stupid too!!! but this movie was excellent.
But why User Rating this excellent film is 5.4/10 ???!!

reply

I saw this film last night not knowing anything about it & i thought it was good yet i come on here & its got a 5.4? eh?, deserves a 7 in my book.

reply

Yeah, on itv4. I totally disagree with 5.4??! I think it definately deserved at least 7 also. Some people, eh?

reply

Oh c'mon people, what you can expect on IMDb when cinematic masterpieces like Rambo: Part II or Rambo III are below average. Movies that made Sly an international superstar and legend are average on IMDb . Then it doesn't surprise me what i see on the board of this film. These ratings are just completely skewed and screwed up, especially when they are run by (wannabe) critics who always hated Sly anyway and anywhere, i'm sure most of the people already know that here.

Cinematic masterpieces?!? You must be on crack.

"Yes, I actually thought it would be stupid too!!!"

Yes,for some strange reason there seems to be many with same opinion, glad you changed your mind but talk about being biased, geez.

I think it deserves a full 7 but gave it a 10 to make up for the ones who voted without even seeying it.

I saw this movie only once, in atheater on Friday afternoon, August 18, 1989, right after I saw When Harry Met Sally there. They are totally different movies, but I did not particularly like this movie. It was allright, but I read reviews of it before I went, and one said, in reffering to the director, "John Flynn turns the heat up early and often". And another said, in stating why it was rated R, "brutal violence". Then when I was watching it I did notice that, and thought it was the most violent movie I had ever seen by far. That is still the case, and no other movie comes close to this one in being violent (and I don't think will, and it will always have this movie distinction for me). I was not all that suprised by this, as I had seen all three Rambo movies, as well as Nighthawks and Cobra, and I knew they were also very violent and Sylvester Stallone was know for violence in his movie, but he hit the jackpot, so to speak, with this one. It was not sucessful at the box office, and I think the extreme violence of it was partly to blame for that, and his movies after this one did in fact become less violent, as maybe he realized he had reached the violence peak with Lock Up, and needed to begin toning it down.

Yeah, I'm also disappointed and also pretty pissed at the low rating. This is such a great movie. One of my fave Sly flicks. This film deserves better.

reply

Are you kidding me? Lock Up is the most violent movie you've ever seen by far? That's crazy. It's not even THAT violent of a movie. Cliffhanger was more violent than this movie.

reply

I was shocked when i saw this rated so lowly on here, its a very good prison movie, it diffinatly deserves 7/10. I think it was rated so lowly by critics only because Stallone was in it, which is unfair, Stallone acting was good in the movie.

reply

it deserves a 7.5-8 rating..or maybe even more..

hey I love this movie!! I had no idea it was nominated for so many Razzies - - but to be honest, the Razzies SUCK! I always ALWAYS fall in love with movies that end up being nominated for Razzie awards.... they represent the exact opposite of my personal views ----- in other words: I love Lock Up! it's a really moving, exciting, and atmospheric movie! excellent!

that would have worked if you hadn't stopped me

reply

I am also not agree with the fact that this movie was nominated to Razzies..., maybe Stallone is not a nice actor (the only god job of him as an actor was Rocky and that´s a fact), but in this movie I don´t see anything that could be common on an average Stallone film...

Is violent, sure it is, but is not the violence we saw on Rambo movies, in fact there are very few men dead (one killed during exercise and the others who died in the sewers because of an electric shock), the violence, more than physical is psychological (the lot of ways that Sutherland character tortures Stallone one are freaking).

But we see that the people inside the jail are really people, with feelings, hopes, virtues and defects. Frank Leone and friends were able to rebuild an old Mustang and to share a friendshipt they never expected. One of Frank´s friends betrayed him but he had the time to redemn his mistakes killing one of the vicious guards killing himself at the moment.

In some moments, you can feel that you are walking on the jail with the prisoners, feeling the adrenaline on the fights or on the brutal football game....

This movie is underrated.... it is a fact.

Best Stallone movie.

''In some moments, you can feel that you are walking on the jail with the prisoners, feeling the adrenaline on the fights or on the brutal football game.... ''

Very well put! The way Sly's character was tested and tormented and the way he dealt with it was amazing. And most people think a regular life is hard. Think of how hard it is to keep a positive attitude in a place like that. It is an inspriration to us all. More people should be like Frank Leone.

This is a moment I felt how the characters where feeling if I was right there:
Remember the part where they destroy the car with basballbats? The car that they built up with so much love and devotion, the car that symbolized their friendship, it just got destroyed right before their eyes and they could do nothing about it. As they start smashing the car, the sound fades... and then the lock up main theme tune starts playing....

It gave me goosebumps all over.

THIS MOVIE IS *beep* GREAT.STALLONE IS GREAT IN THIS MOVIE.NOT GOOD BUT *beep* IF UR A SLY FAN OR NOT,U DONT KNOW ACTING IF YOU THINK HIS PERFORMANCE IN THIS FILM IS ANYTHING LESS

reply

This is actually my fav. Stallone film... Not particularly a fan of his, obviously I like the Rocky's and the Rambo's, But Lock Up to me, is so much better! I've watched it so many times, and it's an awesome movie!

reply

I think a lot of people give Stallone films 1's automatically because it seems to be the Hollywood mentality to trash anything Stallone does that does not have the word "Rocky" in the title. The Razzies included.

This was a great film, Stallone acted well, Sutherland made you hate his character (which is obviously a good thing since he's the villain), there were a handful of engaging scenes.

The only knock I have is its somewhat lack of realism (similar to Prison Break, you have to suspend your belief to an extent and not look into things in the detail you would if they were real life)

reply

I still like this movie. It used to be on television about once a year around here. I really miss it. It's one of his better movies. It seemed to have a good plot and well acted

Yeah, Meissner was a real tough ass, but was also no-nonsense. I think he would have been the obvious replacement for Scumdroole as warden.

Suprislingly good film, I really enjoyed it and Stallone acted well in this.
