OMG!

I just watched this movie....I don't understand....The accents may not have seemed so horrid and inconsistent had this been available in '90. I didn't know Guilfoyle existed except in 3 Men and Baby...And I was not all that "into" watching every Pacino movie until "Heat"...so my point is that now that I am sooo familiar with their voices I can't get past the accents to hear the movie...I equate this with watching Streep without the accents.
The story is peculiar, yet very familiar...but I am not going to give up anything and ruin it (lol) for anyone.
I will watch it a few more times with subtitles on to see if I feel differently.
I would LOVE to see them do it over again, now, without the cockney accents. They both look adorable in it (just to end on a bright note)

I agree that the cockney accent is horrid, I don't mean in the movie, just the accent in general. Is the cockney accent to england what ebonics is in United States.

It would make no sense without the accents - which personally I feel are pretty good ; Pacino's is quite good, Guilfoyle sort of half attempts one, but he isn't distracting at least he's just "there".

Pacino tries to prepare you for this in the prologue by giving you the background of the play and say, (more or less) "hey look, I'm a big star , you know my voice from dozens of movies, so this is going to be something to get used to."

On a technical level there is no problem with his accent - if anything it's solely on the audiences part.

The play needs the accents, the language, the syntax of the dialogue, the slang would make no sense at all if they were left out. I think it's a great play and a great little film - I reviewed it in the reviews section as well.

I didn't mean to say Pacino's accent was bad, I meant the cockney accent in general is horrible. I always thought that the cockney accent is to England what ebonics is to the United States.

i wouldnt say its as horrid as ebonics. i'd say its like the redneck talk of England
