The "cheese" ruined this film... sadly, DeepStar Six was better.

"Deep Star Six" wasn't a great film, the paltry budget really limited the special effects... but at least it wasn't a 'cheesefest' like "Leviathan" was... with it's enormous budget (in 1989) of $25M, very little of that $$$ went into writing this atrocity...

"hey Sixpack, if you call me Becky one more time I'm going to pop your tops, all six of them"... just awful!!

And coming from a "wooden" actor like Peter Weller, who's about as funny as Richard Nixon.

The "special effects" were better in Leviathan (they better be for nearly 10 times the budget that "Deep Star Six" had)... but that's about all that was better when comparing the two films.

In short, "Deep Star Six" made the most of what they had... while "Leviathan" was an enormous waste of a large budget... it would have been interesting to see what "Leviathan" could have been without the "humour".

It's hard to believe how George Cosmatos went from making a 'crappy' film like "Leviathan", to making an 'all-time great' in "Tombstone".
