a 'dirty' looking film....

I found ‘Last exit’ to be a very dirty and grimy film. I didn’t enjoy watching it. It was visually a grainy/ horrible looking film which suited the story. This movie is/ was not my thing. Maybe the film suits a particular audience member(s) but not me.

It's not to everyone's taste, granted, but I admire it for showing how grim and cruel REAL life can be. It's not all Walt Disney, you know.

I thought the movie looked like it was set in an alternate Brooklyn, the future from a 1950's point of view, a la Clockwork Orange

I love the style. It's something that I immediately loved from the opening shots. It has this raw grimy dark foreboding look like paintings from the Ashcan school. Watching it last night just made me yearn for the great creative feel of independents of years ago.

very grim yeah

but not in a bad way

I'm with you OP. This movie was not for me at all and there are dark movies that I enjoy. I like "Goodfellas", "Taxi Driver","A Bronx Tale", etc.but not this one. I found the movie to be pointless and without direction or a good/interesting conclusion.

Truly one of the worst and most depressing movies i've ever seen. I didn't like it AT ALL.
