Bronson sodomizes a perp, forces him to eat a watch and eventually arranges for him to be raped. The portrayal of both American and Japanese society is odd, both are like some sort of nightmare where degenerates prey on innocents. I loved it.
There's a very interesting review of this movie by D.B. Bates (in the 'external reviews' section) that talks about how this movie creates a kind of fictional world and plays by a certain set of rules that work within the context of that world. It's very true... not only for Kinjite, but for several action flicks... Especially the loony ones made by Cannon Films. Death Wish 3, Revenge Of The Ninja, Etc. They depend on creating a world that seems to operate outside our own, yet you buy into it!
Back in the late 80s there was a phobia about the Japanese taking over California buying up our hotels, golf courses, anything premium...it may not have gotten to the extreme fear as Bronson demonstrates but it was very real to people, including myself at that time as I recall. I kind of see that today when I go to the bay area now and just about every person I see there is asian 7 times out of 10. It didn't use to be that way 25+ years ago.
