one of the best double doublecross movies ever

It is also Michael Madsens best pic!!

Rarely has John dahl crafted such a visual (nice desert etc) story with believable twists and turns though Joyride was brill too.

This is in my all time best movies and it is underrated but mostly cos it is fairly unknown.

And John, if you read this I have a script about a murder mystery that you should look at. I tried your agent over at Fatties and Losers talent agency and they wouldn't let me pitch you.

I'm really surprised this movie isn't well known and even more suprised there are only a couple topics on these boards for this... I mean, how in the hell does a movie like this w/ popular people just get lost?

reply

There are tons of forgotten movies with "big" people in them. This is a great one though saw it when I was young and found it again years later.

I thought it was pretty predictable and much of it was really unbelievable- especially the ending. It was entertaining, but hardly what I would consider great. Kilmer wasn't believable at all. Madsen plays the same character in Reservoir Dogs (a far better film), as well as nearly every other film he's been in. The best thing about this was Joanne Whalley, even though I hated her. Wow, is she beautiful. I had no idea who she was, and was surprised to find out she's British. Her American accent was perfect.

I've seen better doublecrosses in other movies. As far as the accent is concerned, everybody is mastering it.

Isn't Reservoir Dogs just a City on Fire remake though?

Reservoir Dogs is not a remake of city on fire. It was used as a basis for inspiration. The whole warehouse portion is not in city on fire. Neither does it contain really any other scenes that were straight out of the movie. However the climax has been left unchanged.

reply

Yeah, a good 30 minutes of it is identical, so even if it's not a remake perse, it should say "BASED ON" at the beginning.

Yes it should have quoted that in the disclaimer portion. But we all know Tarantino very well. He is an inspired film maker, however most of his movies have never stated the source. "Jackie Brown" was based on a novel. But it surprising to see that this was mentioned.

I love Reservoir Dogs. But I will say more than a few ideas were borrowed from Kansas City Confidential.

The most satisfying thing about the whole movie for me, is the femme fatale (that greedy, two-face, sexy bitch!) didn't get the last laugh for once. Good ending.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

Great movie.
