Worst of the trilogy

This movie makes little sense.
Aside from the fact a billionaire making a kids life misery whilst his business empire is under investigation you have the karate kid who despite what he’s been through ( winning the competition and a fight to the death) suddenly is a bigger wimp than he originally was and having no faith in his mentor. Robert Mark Kamen truly screwed the studios for not going with his original idea for this movie.

reply

Yup totally. Not to mention Daniel's line in the tournament of "I'm afraid alright..,I've never been afraid before." Ummm you just had a fight to the death and you weren't afraid? If not for the performance of Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver this would be a total flop. But his character is so over the top that I can't help but like this movie in spite of itself.

reply

He was so over the top that I was surprised he didn’t tie Daniel to a railway track.

reply

Well clearly you missed the deleted scenes lol

reply

He did make an interesting master villain to Barnes thug persona.

reply

I don't mean to spoil this Fight-Club esque monologue between you "two" people but some correction is in order:

When Whinielle LaPusso had his tourney meltdown he does NOT say to Miyagay "I've never been afraid before".

24 second mark.

reply

Mike Barnes’ rant is one of the finest moments in all of cinema.

reply

I think it's great motivation!

Samgerard hasn’t realized Wearsalan is a figment of his imagination yet. I can picture him walking down the street carrying on a conversation with himself in front of puzzled onlookers.

reply

Holy crap! Wearsalan doesn't actually exist?

So that's why he didn't show up at Harrods! There never WAS a Wearsalan after-all!

reply

He’s samgerard’s idealized version of himself, an SJW Tyler Durden. A do-gooder karate instructor spreading the virtues of Miyagi-do to a younger generation.

reply

I never heard this before. What was the original idea?

reply

Yeah, I want to know too!

reply

Robert Mark Kamen felt that Daniel's story was done. He proposed a movie which started with Daniel and Miyagi fishing on a lake (stil in Okinawa) and Miyagi talking about his ancestors and the origin of Miyagi-do Karate.
The rest of the movie would have been a story about Miyagis ancestors and would be something like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon . The studio balked at the idea and told him to deliver something with Cobra Kai and the tournament. This pissed Kamen off as he felt it was just rehashing the first movie.

reply

That movie would have sucked.

What... you believe we needed a story about Miyagay's degenerate drunkard ancestor going to China, kidnapping a wife and child, and stealing ancient Chinese kung fu secrets?

Karate Kid 3 gave us two of the greatest characters in the history of the world: Terry Silver and Snake.. LA's Bad Boy.

Where in my post do I say that I believe we needed that story? Where? Oh that's right, nowhere.
You chump!

reply

Would you rather have had that story instead of the KK3 we got?

reply

I would rather have had a story about Johnny. That was the only story left to tell. Thankfully we’re getting that with Cobra Kai.
End of discussion.

reply

No, if you had to choose between the version of KK3 the writer originally conceived and intended with the story of Miyagay's ancestor OR the KK3 we ended up getting which would you choose?

reply

Both ideas were rubbish. One was realised one wasn't. So my choice, I believe I made it quite clear, would be neither.

Edit. Tbf, I'm saying that after seeing KK3. if you are asking which seemed the better idea on paper, then I, like most people who liked the original movie, favoured the idea of going back to the All Valley over Miyagis flying ancestors. The execution though was terrible. Daniel's story ( and Miyagis for that matter ) was done. A story about Johnny was the way to go. I'm sure all fans of the original would have preferred part 3 to be about Johnny and not Daniel.

reply

No, I mean let's say you had the ability to jump into an parallel universe.

In this universe everything is exactly the same EXCEPT that the KK writer didn't get pissed off and KK3 ended up being about Miyagay's ancestors.

Would you jump into this universe or remain in this one where we have KK3 with Terry Silver and another Valley Tourney?

reply

You already have my answer

reply

WA just got stumped and outsmarted again!

reply

How can a person be outsmarted and stumped when all you asked was their opinion and you got it?
Perhaps you're not as smart as you like to believe.

reply

Wearsalan... a simple question.

If you could exchange the KK3 we got for the KK3 we would have had with Miyagay's ancestors, etc. would you exchange it?

Yes or no question.

reply

You need to go back and 're read my replies. The answer is there already

reply

Are you slow.. or just plain stupid?

WHY ARE YOU BEING SO STUBBORN!!!

(cruisin109 picks up wearsalan throws him through a brick wall.)

WHAT'S THE MATTER WEARS YOU HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING?

reply

Am I slow?
Hahaha!
You obviously are. The answer is right there. Not hidden or cryptic, but you are too stupid or you are not seeing what you want. Either way, your problem not mine.

reply

No I asked you a yes or no question and you didn't answer.

You have 3 days

reply

Actually you asked a few questions all of which were answered.
Question 1 was 'What, you believe we needed a story about Miyagays ancestors.
Answered
Question 2 was 'Would you rather had that story than the one we got in kk3
Answered
Question 3 'No, if you had to choose....
Answered
I could go on, but I would hope even you would eventually see that all your questions were answered. The fact that you don't get it is your problem not mine.
There you go and it didn't take 3 days.
Bye!

Thank you for finally answering. So you agreed that KK3 we got is better than what the writer wanted originally.

Good!

reply

So four days after being told your question had been answered and to go back and re-read my posts you finally did, only to discover that your question has indeed been answered.

What a chump you have shown yourself to be right here for all to see. Perhaps you might want to delete those posts, eh?

reply

No you didn't answer my question. You just quickly edited your post because your 3 days were nearly up and you were afraid of the devastating consequences you would experience.

reply

Post was edited immediately after I posted it 6 days ago. Hence me telling you to go back and re-read my replies before you even came up with your 3 days thing. It's all there for all to see. You are a mug! No amount of twisting and lying can change that.

HAHAHAHA!

Wears.. Wears.. Wears... from the moment I met you I've been making you do things you didn't want to do.

First you tried claiming that Quick-Silver didn't work.. but then I forced you into admitting it DID work by revealing that you yourself purportedly teach your students to break ribs, break noses and knock people out.... THAT'S QUICKSILVER!

Then in your pitiful desperation, you tried claiming that KK3 sucked in general and that the writer shouldn't have been made pissed off implying that the original conceit of KK3 would have been better. ... but then I forced you into admitting that KK3 WAS indeed better than what the writer wanted to do originally.

You have been publicly humiliated and taken a beating yet again by the KAI!

Well thought out. Not sure where that would have gone at the time since Johnny was depicted as older than Daniel and would not have been in the tournament. (Although Zabka is actually younger than Ralph Macchio) So what would they have done with him at the time? But your right, we are getting a great storyline with their present selves.

reply

Maybe there was an adult/over 18 tournament to compete in.
But yeah, Cobra Kai is giving us a what happens next .

reply

Cobra Kai’s version of the future feels like Daniel’s opium hallucination. Based on their personalites in 1984, Johnny seemed on his way to a life of accomplishment and prestige while Daniel, who struggled with the high school curriculum and dropped out of community college, was on a road to squalor and ruin. Expect a Dallas-type reveal where he wakes up in 1985 to find Miyagi in the shower, realizing it’s all been a dream.

reply

So you don't like the series then?

reply

The writers have strayed from the original mythology by depicting Daniel as a success. The major theme of KKIII was the uselessness of Miyagi’s mentorship, which left Daniel a whining man child ill-equipped to deal with the pressures of adulthood (“I feel like the whole world is coming down on me.”). Once you’re willing to suspend your disbelief, the series is fine. However, its creators have ignored the deeper lessons of the original trilogy.

reply

Well seeing as you mentioned the writers straying from the original mythology, it's fair to say that's exactly what they did with kk3. You seriously need to suspend disbelief with that one. But really, disbelief needs to be suspended for the whole series of movies.

reply

KKIII is more subversive than casual viewers realize. While Parts I and II romanticize Miyagi’s bohemian existence and Daniel’s loopy nature, the third film pulls the rug from underneath them to expose their shortcomings in the real world. Miyagi’s unemployment and Daniel’s dropping out of the education system give birth to the doomed Crapshack, which, when juxtaposed with the thriving Dynatox Industries, symbolizes the desolate future that awaits them both. The subtlety of the storytelling may go unnoticed on first viewing, though closer examination reveals a well thought out trilogy charting the decline of two troubled individuals.

reply

Never thought about it like that. You may be on to something.

reply

Thanks for the share. Not sure that would have worked but at least he was thinking outside the box.
