The Koton story is unfounded

However, according to the DVD extras, the dog who played Jerry Lee was Rando. Michael Mooring, who headed the LAPD Canine Unit and served as a technical advisor on the film, brought Rando from Germany, along with two other dogs. Rando, who was bred to be a police dog, won the role because he was the only "bi-lingual" dog among the three, he could understand commands in both German and English. The other two dogs were used as Rando's stand-ins. Rando was trained for the movie by "K-9" animal trainer and handler Karl Miller and his daughter Teresa. Eventually, the pooch retired to Mooring's home in Malibu. “He slept on the end of my son’s bed every night,” says Mooring.

You're right. It's completely untrue and I'm in the process of having it changed. I've found articles with the dog's owner, trainer, insurer and Jim Belushi. They all say the dog's name was Rando, he was from Germany, and lived in Malibu. He never actually worked as a police dog and sure as hell didn't live in Kansas City. I'm thinking some troll added this to IMDb a long time ago and it was never verified. He's surely dead by now but not by being shot.

George Carlin: It's all bullsh-t and it's bad for ya.

Why is it important to emphasize that a German shepherd in a movie is from Germany .....
