Paul Carafotes

When Albert Pyun reshot this movie, both Nicola Cowper and Ilan Mitchell-Smith were called back to reprise their roles. However I was wondering what happened to Paul Carafotes? Did he refuse to be involved or was he merely tied up with other projects?
