The Ending (Spoiler!)

I am surprised how many people have commented negatively about the ending of this film. Given the tone and style of the film, I think it ended the way it should have ended.

It would have been a real cop-out to see the film end with the John Sedley character kill all the bad guys and walk away. It was the whole point of the film that you can change your face, change your career path and try to straighten up & do the right thing but ultimately what comes around goes around and this character's fate was sealed from the beginning.

Then again, maybe that's the mark of good performance by Mickey Rourke in his ability to make this character into someone who you want to see succeed and continue the straight life.

i love the ending of JH and believe it is highly influenced by the final scenes of HOMBRE.

I thought the ending should have been more dramatic. But him dying was fine to me. Rourke turned in a great performance.

I loved the last line of Ebert's review. He said "You give in to your weaker nature and hell opens up below your feet."

~ The ending totally broke my heart that Johnny had to die. Mickey Rourke delivered a wonderful performs like alway.

Just watched and whoa, I absolutly love this movie. It's a shame it never really got the credit it so clearly deserved back in the day. With the right attention, this film could have won awards!!!

I have to say Lance Henrickson was brilliant too but I prefer he bad guy performance in Hard Target. Ellen Barkin was a total bitch lol and really good at it too.

And Morgan Freeman, There has never been one film I've seen him in that's been terrible!

All in all this film deserves a 9/10 from me.

Just finished watching this film for the first time and I did not see the ending coming at all. I assumed, in typical 80's action movie fashion, that Johnny Handsome would take out the bad guys, escape Morgan Freeman's character and be allowed to start afresh...again.

Great ending to an average but enjoyable film!

Mickey Rourke and Morgan Freeman are always very watchable and I enjoyed their performances here.
