Amazing direction from the great Walter Hill, a terrific cast including Mickey Rourke (before he lost his mind), Forrest Whitaker (before he became the worlds wimpiest director), Lance Hendriksen, Morgan Freeman, Ellen Barkin, and Elizabeth McGovern (well 5 outta 6 aint bad) Dark compelling story, tense, dirty, romantic, sad, inspirational, this movie has it all. A must for any Hill fans or fans of gritty crime stories.

Certainly not, I've loved this movie since I was a young teenager. In fact, I made my mom take me to a theater two hours away, because I was afraid it wouldn't open in our podunk town. At the time I was a big fan of Walter Hill (and still am actually) and couldn't wait until his movies came out. This is one of his best and most dramatically complex movies. In addition, his cast (save McGovern [poor thing]) was amazing. I would recommend this to any lover of crime movies or action films. Dark, dark, dark, but immensely enjoyable.
shareGreat overlooked film. The fact it gets a 5.7 on the site is joke. Great cast and fine direction. Mickey is a great actor. Sure he made some bad choices but so did Brando. He is on a major comeback with Sin City, He is shooting in Toronto right now on a movie called KILLSHOT with Diane Lane.

It's a good movie. It lacked depth in some parts but overall very good. The DVD's quality is garbage though. They need to come out with a better transfer.

Everyone says Rourkes career after "Body Heat" was a joke, but this is absolutely some of his best work. He is definitely at his peak as an actor and a presence and he looks great (after the surgery of course). This film is an overlooked gem.
