I agree... this movie is great HK 80s fare.

Plus, it has Yuen Wah, Yuen Biao and Maggie Cheung in it. Where can you go wrong?

reply

I got this one for X-mas...first time I've been able to see it. I rather liked it! But then, Yuen Biao is my hero, so what am I going to say?
Rather wish that Maggie had gone with Biao back to the Ming Dynasty in the end...were so cute together!
And Yuen Wah is the king of crazed, maniacal villains.

I've always wanted to see this flick and finally saw this weekend (courtesy of YouTube). It's funny, action-paked, has got some great martial-arts fighting--basically it's everything a good HK action-drama (or good film period) should be. I also love both Biao and Yuen Wah (one of my favorite HK villain actors) and thought it was a shame they only co-starred in one other HK film in which they also did some more incredible stunts (the name of it escapes me at the moment)which was good, but it couldn't top TIC, of course. Also enjoyed seeing a young Maggie Cheung in one of her first notable roles---she's funny, tough, looks good and just plain entertaining to watch,as always.

Are you thinking of Dragons Forever? They're both in that and they're both off-the-scale. It's awesome.

Aren't the two of them also in Eastern Condors? The ending fight scene of that movie is legendary.

reply

Yes they both are. And so is Sammo and Lam Ching-Ying. The ending is even shot in the same set as Dragons Forever and Iceman Cometh.

Really, so the underground base in Eastern Condors is the same set as the drug factory in Dragons Forever and the museum in Iceman Cometh? Wow. That's kinda mindblowing.

If I had to pick a favorite ending action sequence out of all of them, I think it'd be Eastern Condors.

reply

Yes that's right. Golden Harvest had a very limited set and back lot. They re-dressed that set many times.

Eastern Condors is so underrated - it's awesome. It's like an Asian Expendables, but with better action (and plot).

I agree with you. What I love about Eastern Condors is that it's quite dark for a Sammo movie. I mean, he's always had a great sense of humor but it's really interesting to see him dial it back for a movie. The way he lost a bit of weight and cut his hair made it seem like he was really serious about making Eastern Condors a kick-ass movie.

They're the same people who put Titanic in the top 250. Jerks, useless popcorn guzzling jerks.
