vietnam in english

the one thing that bothers me about this film: the vietnamese' dialogue is not only in english, but perfect english. i've seen all the great films about the vietnam war; this one could go right up there at the top if it weren't for the language-inauthenticity distraction. maybe the filmmakers felt that american audiences - who typically dislike, or are too lazy to read, subtitles - would've tuned this out if the vietnamese spoke in their own language? speaking as an american, i always prefer films with characters who talk in the language of the characters' origins. in that, maybe i'm more of a "euro-american."

Yeah, I thought this is the one flaw that tanked this movie. 'The Iron Triangle" might have been one of the classics if the producers had shown more courage and took a chance that the audience would not have been distracted by subtitles.

The other issue is the Asian actors were not all ethnically correct, which may have not been noticed in 1989 but in 2011 there has been much more of an Asian exposure due to immigration and much interracial couplings that Americans notice the difference between Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese and so on. So the movie has NOT dated well.
