Nah, the young god with the radio on his back. They killed me off in the ambush scene. Got shot between the eyes, after which Capt. Keene (Beau Bridges) was captured (my "...this is an ambush! We need support! I repeat we..." couldn't save him). So my days as an extra were also over (bummer, because the food and lodging and pay were good!).

I saw your scene right now. Did you get to keep any of the uniform, helmet or anything ?

This was a good movie. I'm surprised its not popular

No we had to return all of the gear. We kept a lot of good memories though... Some of us were allowed to go on a helicopter trip after the last scene (and before the wrap-party...). The helicopter belonged to the Singhalese army who were concerned and not at ease all the time since the country was in (civil-)war (with the Tamil Tigers in the North and East of Sri Lanka and the Nationalistic Freedom Fighters in the South of Sri Lanka*) and the always present tensions between Muslims-Hindus-Bouddhists-Nationals-"Burgers"(half breeds or bastards, children by white fathers (Australian mostly, don't really know why...) who had left) and "internationals"). Once there were reports an attempt had been made by the Tamils to steal military gear. All crew and production members lived in sort of an enclave, but I believed the seriousness of the rumour: couple of weeks before the young helper ("sweeper") of the person who run the cheap hostel I stayed at was killed *by a hidden bomb placed by "Nationals" while attending a ceremony at his temple, and no particular fuzz was made, like "business as usual". There was an army supervisor on the set, and he warned us extra's for "killing bees" at one point, then went out to chase its nest with a gun "with real rifles!" so that made more of an impression...

I think the movie was good also, but I'm subjective. Maybe the theme (the respect between a G.I. and a VC) was not good timing, and people expected more action or heroism since Vietnam films were popular at that time. However, most of the Australian and British crew went on to their next job in Thailand I believe, to shoot the film Casualties of War (1989, Brian de Palma) which was successful, maybe because of the big names (de Palma and Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox were popular) because the subject was dealing with kidnap and rape of a Vietnames girl by a 'fellow' soldier, the theme "the realities of war". Maybe the theme in The Iron Triangle was seen as too naive or idealistic, or Beau Bridges was not a box-offive magnet.

You got to keep your scene on youtube - I wish I had something like this to show to my kids .

I too think that the relationship between both the protagonists was a bit to idealistic. But on the plus side, there was none of the Gung Ho patriotism and comments, it was a good gritty war movie, fully worth the time spent
