Selleck's masterpiece

For years, Selleck had to contend with being regarded as that guy from Magnum: a monumental confection of muscles, height, curly hair, moustache, and a surprisingly feeble and unimpressive voice that seemed to belong to a querolous elderly gas station attendant or a spinster blue-rinse librarian.

He really gets to show his acting chops in this film though, going from blameless engineer to driven bad ass, via his unjust conviction, Salieri's mentorship, and the prolonged threat of male rape. The way they demonstrated his new, aggressive, approach by getting him to slick his hair back was a truly brilliant visual demonstration of his character development.

Hey CoinBiter,

I would be inclined to give Selleck's work prior to this film a bit more credence than you seem to think, but I certainly do agree with everything else you said. I think this was a very good film, and it seems to have put his career on a higher road.

Best wishes,

Cool.

Selleck is great in just about everything he does, and this is no exception. Truly a great movie with terrific performances (F. Murray Abraham practically steals the show in my opinion).
