Virgina's COOL apartment?

I know it's most likely a set, but what a cool apt that would be.

But would a girl working as a book clerk in a book store be able to afford such a apt?? I know it was the late 80's.
But I wonder what the rent would be in such a cool apt??
back then.

What was it that you found so cool? The architecture? The decor? Her stuff? The tenant? All of the above?

In any event, the answer to your first question (not counting the thread title) is "probably not."

The architecture
the hallway leading from the front door, opens into the bedroom and kitchen and living room.
I dont know, I just think its nice.
though, im sure NOT real.

I also liked the apartment. It had a Rear Window vibe to it.

I LOVE the layout of the apartment as well. and the piano restoration store would be an extra bonus for me, hearing the guy playing the piano and crashing on the couch, some nice music to fall asleep to.

I had the same questions about that as well. I know the movie was filmed in Los Angeles, I believe it was. So you'd have to factor what the rent was in the late 80s in that particular, how much she was making working at the bookstore. Honestly, if it was a "set" they should have downsided it some [ie the hallway to the front door]

"What are we supposed to use? Harsh language?"

I love how the flashback to 1959 has what Virginia uses as her bedroom was used as
the dining room. and the decor was less cluttered and more house-like looking.
I doubt a girl working at a book store could afford that place even in the late 80's! Yep I agree about the hallway to the front door. the fireplace alone would make the rent rather steep!

I absolutely love the music from the piano restoration shop! she is like me, she reads more and has her TV off most of the time.

Yes, the thing that struck me most when I saw the film in the 80s was the cool apartment. I loved the film, but the apartment was kind of striking in and of itself.
