Treatment for pedophiles; prison for offenders

This is exactly why we need a much more proactive system of self-identification without stigma, so pedophiles can report themselves early to psychiatrists and get intervention, medication, therapy, supervision, and support.

If a pedophile in treatment then offends, s/he should be put in prison for life; no parole, no second chances.

Also, offenders in prison need to be made available for neurophysiological studies, to find out what is going on in their brains to screw them up so badly, and after their deaths, their brains need to be sliced up and studied.

It is ridiculous that we know this illness exists and ruins so many lives, but we treat it like a choice that these people have made and give them no opportunities to seek whatever treatments we might find and support to fight their proclivities.

Until we decriminalize the sickness so the ill can get treatment, or at least be monitored, children will continue to be at risk. We need to treat the cause, not just the symptoms.

But the question is there really treatment for pedophiles? I've been at the hands of a few pedophiles as a child and honestly I don't think there is a treatment. I agree that I think it is an illness. I mean no normal person would want to do this to a child. But, how would someone fix it? I admit I spoke about this a lot in therapy. I wanted to know WHY a man would want to have sex with a little 8yr old girl. What makes that even come into a man's mind? There were no answers from my therapist and to this day I don't think there are answers.

You can't fix what isn't understood. Is it something in their brain, DNA or is that just how they are?

I don't know the answers, it would be a nice world without pedophiles but I doubt that will ever happen.

This would likely never get past the Supreme Court without a Constitutional amendment, but I also think violent offenders, including pedophiles who offend, should have to submit to psychiatric and neurological testing while in prison, and their brains should be sliced up and studied when they die.

And if non-offending pedophiles were allowed to come forward, we could test research, diagnosis, and treatments on them in much larger numbers, as well.

We can't study the disease if we can't study the people who carry it.

There is an actual abnormality in the brains of pedophiles but the crimes they commit are so heinous that no one wants to acknowledge that they may not be able to help their attraction.

You bring up great points, they are generally sent to prison where they live short, painful lives because of how the other inmates treat people who harm children.

It comes down to what is a fair way to treat these people with the victims in mind and the only solution I can think of is chemical castration. If you can medically suppress the sexual desire it would probably be a relief to the pedophiles themselves, not having to deal with having sexual urges towards children. It's a difficult thing to institute because I can't see the population voting for something like that, it seems so extreme and it's taking away a persons very humanity.

That is the best solution I can think of for the problem, they will always be predators and locking them up is more dangerous for the pedophiles and expensive for the tax payers.
