I enjoyed this film....my thoughts!

Okay, I've wanted to see this film for the past five years since I found out it took place in a castle and had a mystery/isolated storyline...which intrigued me because I love horror films like that. Anyway, I'm a big werewolf fan anyway and I tried to find the vhs at, then, video stores like Hollywood Video, but it really was a rare one to look for since it was obviously a direct-to-cable sequel. However, back in 2008 when I was at my local Fred Meyer store in the electronics department, I noticed a display of DTV/low-budget horror films and shockingly discovered the two-pack dvd that included both 'The Rebirth' and 'The Freaks'...and I was like "Holy crap, I FOUND it!". I had to come back the next day to buy it because I didn't have money on me, but when I finally watched it with my brothers...I thought it was suprisingly good considering the LOW budget (probably no more than $2,000,000). I liked how the people were trapped in the castle and there were some creepy shots in the movie, despite the fact that the werewolf was literally shown in either shots of it's mouth or two quick moments when it's seen in full-form (shadows were used though, so it was more like a silhouette), but I think it added to the atmosphere IMO. The acting was okay to decent and the direction was fairly good too, and I enjoyed the parts where the characters split up to look for the others who went missing in the darkened passageways under the castle...creepy! Also, the off-screen (for the most part) deaths were somewhat eerie with the slashed throats and the parts where characters were separated or stalked by the werewolf were done well I thought. The funny thing is, I usually enjoy werewolf films that show the creature(s) more (The Howling, American Werewolf In London, Bad Moon, ect), but somehow, seeing it ALOT less in this film added to it's creepiness IMO. All in all, I would say this is probably the best of the sequels...7/10.

On a side note, here is the artwork for one of the european covers of the film. And as you can see in two of the stills on the back, the werewolf is shown in some more detail! http://www.wicked-vision.com/filmcover/543,Howling-V

Anyone else like this film for what it is?

I enjoyed this movie as well and also gave it a 7/10. It was fun to try and guess who the werewolf was (I was wrong with my guess) and made it like a fun game in addition to being a good movie. For what is often called the worst horror franchise of all time (many people have said that it is), I've enjoyed each movie and have not disliked one of them.
