I think it's better then all the sequels but they should've added more gore and more werewolf screentime. And most inportantly, the ending should have the marly lou character kill the last guy alive on screen. But what else would the plot be about after that. Like does the werewolf stay in that castle forever without going outside. I think there could've been sequel potential based on where they left off with the mary lou as werewolf.

Also she should have ripped that that last guy apart on screen but that would be enough, that should be the ending.

I disagree with having the movie showing her kill the last guy. I think it ended just right, to be honest. Obviously he dies, but I think that it was better to show her smiling at the full moon and cut to credits.

shareI'd stick with the ending, the implied death works very well with that mostly low-key movie.
However I agree it was disappointing how little we got to see of the werewolf. I mean it worked fine for that movie... but for those who would like to see some werewolf screentime it was disappointing.
It did however reduce the possibility that poor special effects could ruin the movie. Seen a number of promising werewolf movies fall apart once you see the werewolf in action.
I also see this one as my favorite sequel in the Howling series :)
