well, I found a standard issue of the R1 for next to nothing on:

www.cd-wow.com

despite the sites limited range it offers free shipping and often has downright steals.

enjoy,

Max.

UK readers can get a copy free in the Sunday Times this weekend (12/03/06).

Which is quite astonishing since it's getting a commercial release on April 10th. I don't really understand the economics behind these dvd giveaways but this one seems a surefire way to shoot yourself in the foot.

Try this Sunday's copy of the Times 12th March 2006! They are giving away a copy of the dvd (region 2 of course). Hoorah :)

update sunday 12th march 2006:
I now have my 'free' dvd and very happy with it I am too :) You can wait for the full package with all the gumph if you like - I just wanna watch the movie!

The Times release has differing companies controling it than the DVD release. As a result, the times giveaway has postponed the special edition DVD release indefinitely.

Free R2 DVD in the Sunday Times today.

Great giveaway ... been sitting around for a couple of weeks so I only got to play it tonight ... but the sound!!The track sounds like it was recorded open mic in a cinema. Its the weirdest fake stereo mix I've ever heard on a movie ...anyone else even notice this or have I just got sensitive ears?

reply

Yes, the sound is rubbish.

Also, is this open matte framing or not? The small titles seem to be a givaway that there is extra space top and bottom and that nothing is being cropped on the sides, but then there are some shots that lose too much if it is blown up on a 16x9 display to approximate the theatrical framing.

Is this a true pan and scan or open matte?

Is there anyone who has an extra copy of this DVD from the Sunday Times?

I had it but thought the sound was sooo bad. Is it supposed to be like that?

I bought the Anchorbay region 2, anamorphic: did not see any extreme cropping cinematography wise. I accidently watched the first 40mins with the 2.0 soundtrack wich was indeed horrible...but then switched to the 5.1 DTS for the last 50 mins of the movie, that sounded ok to me. The cover however only lists the 2.0 stereo..
