I'm getting a real Halloween 3 feeling here...

I've read some posts in other threads about how for some strange reason somebody overseas tried to cash in on the House series, naming this House 3, forcing the rightful owners of the House series to name their third movie House 4. Nope, they are all produced by Sean S Cunningham. He just pulled a Moustapha Akkad for some strange reason, like that move was so successful for the Halloween series.

Just an observation, comment if you'd like. Can anybody else think of other instances of this: jacked up sequals, completely unrelated to the series, cashing in and what not?

Smells like victory.

and what does the other parts of the series have in common? nothing.(except 1 and 4 had one character the same)

reply

Well, Max's evil spirit did haunt Lucas's home causing power outages, hallucinations, horrible dreams.

reply

yea, it wasn´t acctually the house that was weird

I'm not getting so much the Halloween 3 feeling off this, as I am that Wes Craven ripped off this movie to make "Shocker."

You obviously missed what the OP meant by comparing it to Halloween 3.

Zombi series. Even though it was never a series it's funny the mess they became and they don't in anyway relate to each other.

Dawn of the Dead (Sequel to Night) was named Zombi and Zombie: Dawn of the Dead in many European countries. So Zombi 2 was named that as a sequel to Dawn. But Zombie in the U.S and Zombie Flesh Eaters in the UK.

Then comes Zombi 3, unrelated to Zombi 2. renamed Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 for the UK but unchanged for the US. Making it even more complicated.

Then, oh we are not done yet. Comes Virus re-named Zombi 4 and Zombie Creeping Flesh, Hell of the Living Dead (To sound like a sequel to Dawn and Night) also known as Zombi 5 WTF? Also another called After Death AKA Zombi 4: After Death known as Zombie Flesh Eaters 3 in the UK.

Also Dr. Butcher MD AKA Zombi Holocaust also known as Zombie 3.

now i live in the uk, and ive always known this movie as house 3 - the horror show. why wasnt it called that in the states????

reply

Because the Producer took it on himself to rename it House 3 for overseas release, when the people who actually owned the rights to the House & House 2 movies were not involved in the project, and were actually the only ones that should have been legally able to make a House 3 (and in fact were working on one when the producer pulled that stunt, that became House IV).

he was in lucass house, in the boiler, his spirit entered the boiler.

Few things truly compare to the awfulness that is Halloween 3. However, the Halloween series was never intended to just be about Myers---although, of course, that's not why Season of the Witch sucks; no, that blame rests entirely on Stone Henge, androids, and inconsistencies large enough to drive a truck through. The only memorable thing about H3 was that little Halloween diddy sung to the tune of "London Bridge is Falling Down."

Let's see...Highlander 2 (the original not the director's cut)...Rocky Horror Picture Show and Shock Treatment...Troll and Troll 2...Exorcist 2...the current run of straight-to-video American Pie movies...Blair Witch 2...Son of the Mask (kinda)...Omen IV...American Psycho 2...Beastmaster 2: through the Portal of Time...I'm sure there's millions more...

reply

Out of those, Rocky Horror and Troll 2 are entertainingly bad and the rest (other than Son of the Mask, Highlander 2, and Shock Treatment) are at least tolerable. Which sounds about right.

Correction: The Horror Show aka House III was ripped off by Shocker actually.

But I do agree with the similarities to Nightmare on Elm Street.

In the end I kind of like this flick and it really isn't much cheesier than Nightmare on Elm Street itself. A lot of the special effects and especially the majority of the acting in NoES are pathetic at best. Wes Craven is one overrated horror director.

Halloween 3 is *beep* awesome in all its cheesy 80s glory!

Tanuccoon got it right. Halloween was never suposed to be the Michael Myers series. From what I hear, Carpenter thought Halloween 2 was even stretching it WAY too long with Michael Myers. The only real reason he had that movie made was to bring closure to the Michael Myers saga(hence Halloween 2 is Carpenter's REAL ending to the Michael Myers character). Halloween, in his vision, was suposed to be a series of horror movies that all revolved around the theme of "Halloween". Hence all would have to do with the Halloween tradition, masks, candy, but each movie was suposed to be different. Seemingly the original draft of Hallween 3 was darker, but they had someone else rewrite it and it didn't fair too well. Hence Akkad went back to "Halloween: The Michael Myers saga".

For some reason, Part 3 in a series is often a departure from the previous 2 such as House 3, Halloween 3, Home Alone 3, Dr. Dolittle 3, Stuart Little 3, I'll Always Know What you Did Last Summer and so on. However, sometimes they are made to 'fix' the damage done by part 2. For instance, Exorcist 3 was made, telling people to 'forget' that #2 was even made.
The number 3 seems to be quite unlucky in the world of film!!!

You guys are completely missing the point of what the original poster was mentioning. I believe he was refferring to sequels that are 100% COMPLETELY unrelated, as you guys are mentioning movies that are still related, just not taking direct place after the previous one. I've always thought that to be very very odd about House 3 & Halloween 3. Is it really true about House 3 being produced by the same people as the other House's?? It doesn't say anything about that on the main page (it mentions completely different companys, completely different countries)so I was wondering if its really true & where the OP got that from??

They're both HORRENDOUS movies & an embarrassment to the rest of the series (even if they are unrelated) & I don't know why they didn't just change the name in the end. I can't think of any other movies that are like that (altho I'm sure there's gotta be at least a couple more out there).

Okay here we go... The Horror Show a.k.a House 3 was produced by Sean S. Cunningham, the same guy that produced all the other House movies... besides that, House 3 has absolutely nothing to do with the other House movies. It's really the distributors faults for confusing people. Sean S. Cunningham was NOT producing the 3rd House movie, he was producing the American film, The Horror Show. However, the distributors felt that the title wouldn't do well enough for the release in other countries, so they slapped House 3 on the title of the European versions. When Sean S. Cunningham was producing the real House 3, he was forced to call it House IV to avoid confusion in the European countries... however calling it House IV caused even more confusion in the states because a House 3 didn't exist over here. So it's really just one big cluster *beep* of confusion thanks to the distributors.
