I remember when I saw this in the theater in 1989. I was 11. I wondered, at the time, why the scientist didn't just take his machine outside and shoot it around the yard until the kids just popped up where they stood, back to full size. My sister's date (brother in law now) replied, "That'd just make the grass get real big."
