*Spoilers* Concerning the dog ...

Why did Busey bury it in the backyard? Bad move. The chances of it being dug up were too great. And it would have looked pretty conspicuous for a strange guy to be digging a hole in the family's backyard (even if the family had gone out for the day, a neighbor might have seen him). Busey's character seemed smart enough to avoid screwing up like that. Wouldn't it have made more sense for him to dispose of the dead dog somewhere else in town?

My wild guess here crypt_of_lovecraft - it was for the movies storyline sake . Otherwise it would have been considered a " loose-end to the storyline " ( and to all of us viewers here ) what Tom had done with the dog and all the people he got rid of . It's one storyline detail of course but would still standout and make it seem incomplete somehow . Like I said just my wild guess here perhaps there are other reasons but at the moment that's the only theory I could come up with on it . Thanks crypt_of_lovecraft for your subject post . ( PS - Really like your Avatar here . The Death Wish films are so excellent - Charles Bronson's best action films IMPO . That was my favorite ending for the first film as well )

That's pretty much what I figured it was, too.

Thanks.

Another wild guess here is perhaps - Tom in some subconscious way wanted the dog to be found by the family as a twisted & desperate cry for help that he was not very stable as he wanted to be ( like wanting to be in a real family member situation of sorts to them ? ) . Remember how reluctant he was at answering the counselor's questions at first place he was staying at before the boarding house .

Interesting perspective. I suppose that could be the case.

Thanks for the thoughtful response.
