Similarities to Mean Girls

First off, I LOVE this movie and I am definitely not saying that it is just a darker version of Mean Girls. Both movies are great on their own and have the best lines, but I couldn't help but notice some little similarities between the two.

Heather Chandler - Regina George

Blonde mega-bitch who dominates their minions and picks on others.

Heather Duke - Gretchen Weiners

Quieter and submissive follower. Eventually starts to rebel against the leader of the clique but in different ways. Heather steps up as leader when Chandler dies and becomes bitchier. Gretchen tells Regina's secrets, which can be used against her by Cady, Damien and Janis.

Heather MacNamara - Karen Smith

Airheaded and ditzy member of the clique. Although Heather is not stupid like Karen, she has more of a ditzy air about her which makes me call her the Karen-type of the clique.

Veronica Sawyer - Cady Heron

Outsider of the group, who joins the clique but leaves her real friends behind (Betty Finn/Janis and Damien). Veronica is in the clique but doesn't like their attitude. Cady specifically joins the clique to take it down.

Both movies are superb, and I don't want to stay that Mean Girls is a complete copy because it isn't. I just thought the little connections like that were interesting.

Do you mean Mean Girls similarities to Heathers? ???

Yes, because obviously Heathers came first. Sorry if my title made it seem as if I was saying that Heathers copied Mean Girls or something, but I only put Mean Girls in the title since we were already on the Heathers board.

Sorry for the confusion haha You probably thought I was one of those airhead Millenials who thought Mean Girls is the definitive teen movie and everything else just copied it :D

The point of my thread was just put out some thoughts I had about the similarities between the characters' personalities.

Yup you are very right, I see it too. You can really tell a lot was borrowed from Heathers to make Mean Girls which is certainly not a bad thing because as you said both movies are superb.
