Miss Saigon - The Movie

If Miss Saigon was ever produced as a movie, would it be better as a stage production like the "CATS" movie, or a location shoot like the "EVITA" movie?

While some people will claim it should never be made as a movie, I'm not one of those people. With the shows closing, and the production quality of the current touring company lacking much of the luster of the original production, only a movie could preserve that original magical performance. However, I'm undecided as to the format it should take.

reply

Im actually writing a screenplay version of it now. Im taking the Evita approach.

It would be more awesome on a large scale. The opening bar scene could have more than the what, 10 people in the musical?
And the Fall of Saigon could be as massive as it really was.

I dont know who'd Id cast, but Id loke to have Jonathan Pryce be the Engineer. When I say it back a few years ago in Chicago, he ruled! Maybe Kelly Clarkson as Ellen, as she would be a moderat big name that could totally pull off that part. The woman on my cd sounds like her.

I saw it recently in Green Bay WI, but it wasnt as good when I saw it before. They did add like 3 new songs, and Id love to put them in my script, but Im just taking from the original cd I own.

ANyone know where I could find that stuff?

I love the musical, it really is the best!

reply

I've always thought Miss Saigon could be an amazing big budget musical movie (like Evita or moulin rouge) Get the right actress for kim and chris, and expand the scenes like the fall of saigon....

reply

If you're going to do a screen play don't just cast someone because of how big his/her name is

reply

I wouldnt, but Kelly could pull it off. She kind of has the look of Ellen that I always had in my head listening to the album over and over and over..........

........dont know about Kim & Chris yet.........theyd need to be perfect.

reply

when i went to see the stage production, the guy who played chris looked very similar to mark blucas. i don't know if mark could carry the role, but he sure has the looks

Life is pain, princess. . . anyone who says differently is selling something.

reply

I think that a film version of miss Saigon would be great. It's definitely a huge production that needs a lot of sets and skips in time so it would be great if it was shot on location. I think a film version of Les Miserables, the musical, would also be great.
I'm surprised none of Schonberg & Boublil's musical has hit the silver screen when they seem so perfect for it.

i would really love a film version. i play the music on the piano constantly and i have the cd. miss saigon is the ultimate drama/ love story. HEY SCREENWRITERS! YOU WANT A WINNER? ADAPT MISS SAIGON!

Mark. Blucas. Oh. My. God. How???? I don't think a nancy boy like him could ever pull off a solo, 8 duets and 11 songs! No, even if he can sing I don't think he can sing like Chris has to, but there ya go.

He's doing Olaf impressions! Let's hit him with fruits and various meats.

reply

LOL!!!! i don't think that mark could possibly every play chris, your right. i'm just saying the guy i saw in it, looked like mark blucas.

reply

If It was to be made into a movie, I think this should be the cast

Kim: Lea Salonga or Kristy Cates or Idina Menzel
Chris: Patrick Wilson
John: Alan Cumming, Ben Vereen or Matthew Broderick
Trahn Van Dihn the Engineer: Kevin McNally
Ellen: Kirsten Dunst
Thuy: Telly Leung
Gigi: Amanda Bynes

reply

mistoffelees12 that is the worst cast possibility i have ever heard...the fact that your most original ideas for for Gigi and Kim are not even remotely asian borderlines on offensive. Amanda Bynes seriously isn't even that great of a singer to pull of such an emotional song like "The Movie in my Mind" nor does she have the experience in dramatic acting. Idina Menzel? Alan Cumming? Seriously? These are not roles for these people. Alan Cumming does not have the rich full voice to give the passion of "Bui Doi" and Idina Menzel could barely pull off a 20 year old for the Rent movie...how is she supposed to play off 17 for Miss Saigon? Her voice is more belty and raw...Kim is pure and innocent, but eventually becomes strong and powerful. And most importantly SHE IS NOT ASIAN! Which is a huge deal to those of us who are an ethnic minority in the performing world...don't make me explain it to you it's just offensive and upsetting...Do you know anything about Miss Saigon? really...?

reply

Well I know that Jonathan Pryce played The Engineer on Broadway and guess what... HE WASN'T ASIAN EITHER!!! And neither was the guy who played Thuy. It was like the biggest controversy but guess what, IT'S STILL A FRIGGIN GOOD MUSICAL!!@*$&#

reply

Hey, i think makin 'miss saigon' into a film would be a good idea. r u stil writin it?

i think the role of the engineer cud only go 2 one actor and that wud be 'Jon Jon Briones'. He's been doin the stage show for years, all over the world and he's the best thing in it.

As for chris - ewan mcgregor?!?!?! (probably get hit for that idea.)
Kim- don't know - minnie driver who's recently taken to singing. i personally don't care for her though.

It wud b a difficult one to cast. wouldn't know where to start apart from Jon Jon Briones.

reply

Minnie Driver? One, she's not a soprano. Two, she doesn't look Vietnamese in the slightest. Three, just because she's been having singing lessons is not a good reason to cast them. I've been having singing lessons, you should cast me! (I'm a male, 14 year old Brit).

Personally, I don't think there should be a Miss Saigon movie. A filming of the stage production would be great, but a movie is not needed. I've only just recovered from the news that they're making 'Sweeney Todd' and 'Rent' into movies! Whilst I would like to see Miss Saigon as a movie (so I could watch it again and again) I think realistly it wouldn't work. Alot of the magic would get lost. However, I think a movie of Les Miserables would be a good idea, as the story-line and songs are alot more transferable onto the big screen.

P.S PLLEEEEEAAAASEEE don't cast Johnathon Price as the Engineer! I know he was the oringinal one, but I don't think he's any good. He never seems to put any energy into his roles, and always looks abit bored. Also, call me old fasioned, but I think it's racist to cast a white person as an Asian, especailly when there are plenty of actors with the correct ethnic background who could do a better job! *cough* Leo Valdez.

He's doing Olaf impressions! Let's hit him with fruits and various meats.

reply

I want a movie made. This is my favorite opera/operetta/musical ever. I am obsessed with this show. I even wrote a screenplay for it. The screenplay is almost a literal translation of the Original London Show.
I felt the Original London version had more power to it than the Broadway version. Like the song Her or Me that was changed to Now That I've Seen Her is basically the same, I just prefer the first one's lyrics and intro. And the line in What A Waste about, "Acid, Marijuana, and Hash, will get you high in a flash" seemed to reflect the time and type of business vendors on the street. But in the screenplay I kind of blended the two, adding verses or changing words. I combined both versions of Thuy's entrance, and The Heat Is On In Saigon. (I told you I was obsessed.)
I would love for them to make a viewable copy of the original cast that they have at the Library in New York. But if they make it into a film, much like Evita, they would switch things around. but it would work. I love Evita, because of the changes just as much as I love the original stage show. So I think I could be happy as long as this movie was handled the same way.

they should only make it like cats

Has anybody else heard about the original cast being on tape? I have never heard this before. Any information would be appreciated, thanks.

Actually the engineer is biracial, I believe they talk about it in the documentary, he is the product of his prostitute mother servicing the french, so anyone of any decent could really play him.

I would Say Miss Saigon would make a perfect movie!, done correctly.
I would urge you to look at the recent film version of "Phantom of the Opera", that was brilliantly done and stayed true to the stage production as regards scenes and songs etc...., I was so pleased to see that the Director Joel Shumacher, did'nt write any gratuitous love scenes or make unecessary changes to the piece.
The success of Miss Saigon would hinge on a director that could maintain the integrity of the origional stage production and not "hollywoodise" it, in fact maybe this could only be acheived if the origional writer's Alain Boubil and Jean-Michel Schonenbourg were to be heavily involved as Andrew Lloyd Webber was with the recent "Phantom" movie!
As for a cast, well I would say that although Pryce was fantastic in the origional stage version I would maybe say his age is against him, and maybe slightly old for the part now!. as for an alternative, I can't really offer one.
I can see why you would like Kelly Clarkson as Ellen, fact is she is an amazing singer but an awful actress! and thats the quandry, and that would be the problem hanging over the whole thing! Do you get fantastic actors at the expense of good voices or is it possible to have both!. I would say go for the latter!. It is possible to teach someone to sing, but to act (convincingly) thats another matter.
Maybe someone like Christian Bale would make a good "Chris" I don't know to be honest, but I would try and think outside what you know of the stage version. People who go to the movies do not neccesarily go to the theatre! and it's important to remember it is a MOVIE!
As with "Phantom", Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford made the parts of "Christine" and "The Phantom" their own, on stage, but they're not in the movie and to be honest it's nice to see fresh life and interpertation brought to the characters! Maybe "Chris'" friend who sings "Bui-Doi" would suit Mekhi Phifer!
It's a tough call!
And lastly, good luck with funding, it's a HUGE risk for a film company like Miramax or Paramount to just hand out the money for something like this, true "Chicago" and "Moulin Rouge" did phenominaly well and that may make it easier, but all the factors would have to be right, would they even be able to get the right's to the production's score etc.... this would not be a simple task.
I wish you the very best of luck, I really do, you're gonna need a whole heap of it! and I don't want to discourage you.
I mean you may just be writing a screenplay for your own enjoyment and not have any intentions of taking it to the next level and thats great. I'm just a regular person who has seen the stage version .I don't know anything about movie production etc, and you might think what I've written is a pile of crap!, but if these factor's occured to me who knows nothing then surely they will occur to the big exec's sitting on the millions it's gonna take to make the film.
Best of Luck I hope you finish it!.

Hello!!!!!!!!! The only person to play Kim would be the role's orginal-Lea Salonga. No one can top her. Jonathan Pryce would have to play the engineer. No ifs and or buts. As for Chris and Ellen....that's a toughie. Chris's part is important but Ellen, as long as she can sing it doesn't really matter.

reply

While I agree Lea Salonga was amazing, I don't think she should play Kim (if this was ever adapted for screen).

Lea still looks and sounds amazing, but there's no way she could pass for a 17 year old girl...

reply

Kelly Clarkson as Ellen? That would make the movie a total flop. She can't act worth a flip, and her voice is way too much like a pop star. You'd need someone who could actually pull off the part, both vocally and in acting.

I don't think Jonathon Pryce would be good as the Engineer in the movie, either. He was great in the play, but in the movie, people would notice that he's not Asian, and he would look ridiculous in a play where the characters are almost all Asian.

reply

If they ever make a Miss Saigon movie in the near future, I would bet that the girl who came in third in the most recent American Idol would be playing Kim. She's young enough, Asian, and sings.

reply

I would be interested to know how Ellen would be cast. (If she would be Caucasian or Vietnamese.) I've seen the show twice and once, she was Vietnamese and the other time she was Caucasian. It's puts a totally different twist to the story if she's Vietnamese, like Chris could never get over Kim.

reply

You're probably talking about Margaret Ann Gates, who played Ellen on Broadway in '99, am I right? Actually, we're not sure what Ellen's ethnicity is, it's only that the actress who played her is Asian. We don't even know if she's Vietnamese. My bets is that she isn't, because there weren't all that American-raised Vietnamese in the US in the 70s. Seeing that Ms. Gates is Korean, the Ellen she played is probably ALSO Korean. I saw her as a Korean adoptee from the Korean war, so when Kim told Ellen that she wanted to give away Tam, to her, it was like seeing her biological mom giving her up. I think Ms. Gates really is adopted, because from what I understand, Gates isn't her stage name nor is it her married name.

reply

I think a really good person to play Ellen in the film would be Kerry Ellis or Laura Michelle Kelly or phillipone isnger Ima Castro who should be Kim or Ellen but sheh asn't played Ellen yet! Also John would have to be Hugo Maynard! The Engeer would always be Leo Valdez

Do you have ears....the hawaiian finalist from idol was horrible, Lea is the only one worthy of the role.

you mean jasmine trias?

im proud that with her being part filipino, she has made that far in AI. but her to play kim? NO WAY! she just doesnt have the range, and she even falls flat in her expression of simple pop songs. then for her to carry out such a magnanimous role? flop!

reply

I love this!! All you people read my mind!! I was telling a friend just the other day how amazing that would be as a movie!! I love that show!!

reply

Now I have given this great consideration, and I feel that my casting is apt for the degree of vocal talent and acting talent needed for the parts.

Kim should be played by an "unkown". Lea (while wonderful) is far too old now to play an 18 year old. I would like to see a large casting call much like they did for the Original London Cast.

Ellen should be played by Kate Winslet. I feel Mrs. Winslet would sing the part quite well and would embody all of the qualities required to act the part. Let us not forget, film is different than the stage, and you need incredible actors to capture the emotions of the characters.

Chris should be played by Jude Law. A talented singer and actor, he would be able to carry the part by being romantic and somewhat innocent and I believe that he an Kate Winslet would make a believeable couple (the scene where Chris reveals his emotions about the war would be amazing with the two of them).

All other parts are fairly negotiable, a collaboration of budding stars and broadway stars would be good. But I feel these would be best for the principals.

reply

Personally, I'd prefer an American (Canadians are okay too) actor and actress as Chris and Ellen, but that's just me. If Jude Law and Kate Winslet were cast, then Kim should be played by an unknown in her mid 20s or even late 20s. Chris and Ellen aren't really all that old. While his age isn't really said, he's probably no older than 22 years old (though he certainly isn't 18 if he was on his second tour.) I guess Ellen is about the same age as Chris.

i think people from stage show as these people know it nad od it live well much better that hollywood and its not fair.

Either stage people or movie people who have had stage experience. Because Miss Saigon can have such a young cast (Chris, Kim and Ellen), someone that will attract a younger audience might be good too.

I saw Miss Saigon when I was 15 too (back in 1994), and I loved it because the cast was age-appropriate (Chris, played by Kevin McIntyre, was 22, as was Melissa Thomson (Ellen). Kim, played by Ma-Anne Dionisio was 20). I do think, in terms of marketing, that there should be a mix of actors with stage experience only as well as actors who have marketing appeal. I'm not saying that Ashton Kutcher should play Chris (YIKES!) or even Justin Timberlake. Ashton might be a little too old for the role, especially if they cast an 18 year old as Kim. The cast I saw is definitely too old now, as they're 32, 32 and 30!

reply

Coco Lee as Kim. She sang the theme to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

reply

No one, outside of the Asian American community really knows who the she is. She also seems to give off a very OC-chic feel, at least from what I've seen from a few years ago (I haven't really seen any pics of her lately)...don't know if that's "appropriate".

Why is it, that most Asian Americans have that California Chic vibe? Isn't there such a thing as being lady-like/gentlemanly?

reply

John Leguizamo could be great for the Engineer... the role is almost MADE for him (except for his ethnicity)

reply

Oh my, Justin Timberlake? Yes he can sing but he doesn't have the right timber in his voice or the ability to pull off Chris...if we're gonna talk pop stars, JC Chasez or Joey Fatone could probably pull it off. I didn't get to see it, but I heard Joey was pretty good in Rent

No offence, and I know you have your own opinions, but Emmy Rossum is completely the wrong voice type/range for Ellen. She could probably act it well, but couldn't sing any of Ellen's songs.

He's doing Olaf impressions! Let's hit him with fruits and various meats.

reply

Lea Salonga would be too old to play Kim for a movie version. There would be close-ups in a movie so you can't cast her, unlike in a play, her age wouldn't be that obvious. I agree with Paolo Montalban as Thuy, it's so him. IMO, Chris should be a hunk, bet. 20-28 yrs old. Who do yyou think should direct the movie if ever?

reply

[deleted]

How about Nicholas Hytner? He did a good job on the stage version and the movie of The Crucible.

reply

I personally would love to see Joel Schumacher direct a motion picture of Les Miserables (probably not likely) or Sunset Boulevard (which Webber claims will get the okay by paramount to become a film in the next couple months). I am not sure if he would do a great job with Miss Saigon, but then again he made a really good film out of phantom of the opera (I think I prefer the film creature to the stage creature by a hair).

I think that another Phantom alum, Pattrick Wilson would be able to play Chris quite nicely, as for Kim, I don't know.

Maybe a West Side Story type of direction could be done with this film: one person to do choreography/blocki ng, one person to do camera shots.

reply

Personally, I'd just be happy if they put the the original stage production on a dvd with any special features like commentries and interviews they had lying around in their archives. The films are never quite as good as the original broadway play-- at least in my opinion. Plus I could just never see anyone replacing Lea Salonga vocally as Kim. Of course an actress could always take the Minnie Driver approach (Phantom) and just lip sync to Lea Salonga's voice, hah.

reply

Before you laugh at the suggestion of a soap opera star to play a major movie role, check this guy out. Some relatively unknown people did Phantom on screen and it was a smash. My suggestion for Chris would be Kyle Lowder (Brady from "Days of our Lives"). He would be perfect! He is GORGEOUS, but not too pretty that he can't be a tough, military guy either. Plus, he has an amazing singing voice. Wow. He'd make the female audience melt, that's for sure.

And why not Minnie Driver as Ellen? Who says she would have to play Kim? She's a terrific actress and has a voice that would fit Ellen more appropriately than it would fit for Kim.

The person I believe someone was looking for as Kim was Kimberly Locke (from American Idol). That could work...

reply

Brendan Fraser should be Chris
Jonathan Pryce should be the Engineer
The girl who plays REIKO in RING (Japanese original) should play Kim
Isay Alvarez should return.
Minnie Driver..I'm not being racist, but she's too dark and therefore too similar to Kim and and the bar girls...we need someone who looks the exact opposite of Kim...someone blonde or brown-haired.

By popular demand, Miss Gigi Van Tranh is elected MISS SAIGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

Ooooooh, Brendan Fraser would be good too! Can he sing? He'd sure be a great actor for the part!

reply

While Brendan's a hottie, at 35, he's a tad bit too old to play Chris, unless you cast an actress in her mid to late 20s as Kim. Hmmm..maybe Will Estes (J.J. on American Dreams)?

reply

[deleted]

[deleted]

Actually I agree, Kyle Lowder may have the chops to pull it off, but I think Minnie Driver (who has a very nice voice and a great album) may be a bit too old to play opposite him.

reply

I think the Engineer could be played on film by the original actor himself, Jonathan Pryce. Lea Salonga is perfect for the role but she is a little too old by now to play it. And broadway singers sound differently on stage and on film. Lea sounds perfect on stage but when made into a film, | don't think so. Someone with Asian looks but not necessarily Asian can play the part of Kim. She should be innocent looking. Patrick Wilson is a good choice for Chris but should sound less classical. Paolo Montalban is OK but the role of Thuy should have a strong and powerful voice. Paolo's voice sounds better in ballads. The role of John would be best played by and African-American. Although the london show had a caucasian for the role I would say that a baritone voice would fit better for a black guy. Taye Diggs for one is a good choice. Ellen is practically an easy role to cast because it need not be anyone who has made a name in the music industry or on screen but she must sound alto but can hit high notes. Rather husky, i should say. Emmy Rossum is a lyric soprano and is perfect for classical musicals.

reply

Defintely Lea Selonga as Kim, in the original cast recording she is amazing. Although vertial unknowns would be good because it worked for Phantom, Emmy Rossum has an amazing voice (who knew??.

A young unknown cast would be great, I've always wanted to see a film adaptation of the musical especially since it has now closed.
Although possibly missing Starlight Express more although the subject matter and staging could never be transferred to the big screen, can you imagine it...talking trains.

reply

hands down... KIM- lea salonga!

reply

Jonathan Pryce,in my opinion is great, thanks to his performance as Mr. Dark in the film version of Something Wicked This Way Comes every time I read the book I see him as Mr.Dark, and he was wonderful in Brazil

reply

How about Lucy Liu as Kim?

The reason I say this is I saw her play Kim in the Chicago production before she went to Hollywood. She was excellent.

reply

Lucy Liu was in Miss Saigon? I didn't know that. I know that she auditioned though. I do think Lucy is a little too old for the role. If they get Lucy, they might as well have Lea. They're around the same age.

reply

what about Josh Groban as Chris? :P sorry, i'm a Grobanite! but yea, i think an unknown should play Kim

reply

I think if they could make Johnny Depp asian he'd do the engieer amazing!

reply

I reckon a lot of you have the wrong idea! It's so stupid to just put in big name actors who are really really well known, unless they are brilliant singers! You have to use someone actually GOOD i.e. Lea Salonga! Using someone like Lucy Liu would just be ridiculous. I haven't heard such blasphemy since someone suggested Nicole Kidman as "Fantine" in Les Miserables - she's an AWFUL singer in Moulin Rouge, and I say that with all respect because I think she's a great actress... just not a singer.

reply

I think an on-location Miss Saigon film would work better than a filmed version of the stage show, although I think The American Dream would be best done in a fantasy sequence in the same way Chicago did it...ie black background, theatre lighting etc. That would be great! :)

And yes, I'd love to see an on-location Sunset Boulevard too (Norma Desmond... Liza Minelli should do her cos she IS Norma!!)

As for casting for Miss Saigon, I dont think it should rely on big name celebs (although Patrick Wilson would be a great Chris!), I think you should go for some of the better quality cast from the past like they did with the Cats recording. I'd personally suggest:

Kim: Joanna Ampill

Engineer: Jon Jon Briones or Leo Tavaro Valdez

Ellen: Kerry Ellis (best Ellen EVER!)

John: John Partridge perhaps, but I'd rather see the guy who was John in the UK Tour first this year, I forget his name but he was amazing, he goes all Gospel Improv in Bui Doi.

But as long as they get people who are good and do the show justice, it will be fine, ie get a GOOD Engineer, not a big celebrity name etc.

reply

My ultimate cast would be:

Engineer: Jon Jon Briones or Leo Valdez
Kim: Lea Salonga! The only person that should even be considered!
Chris: Ramin Karimloo. Saw him on the tour and he was AMAZING.
Ellen: Hmmmm, Ruthie Henshall, Claire Moore and Kerry Ellis are all good.
John: Hugh Maynard
Gigi: Sonia Swaby

I know they are all from the show, but I think if a film is made they should use people who have already been in the show and know what they are doing. Besides, no famous actor or actress could pull off such demanding roles (singing-wise).

Just my two cents.

I've detailed who I think should play each role and why, the names are in CAPS.

Engineer: Because the Engineer is a leading character in the story, the actor who plays him will have to be a known one. Maybe not a part of Hollywood's finest, but an actor with a recognizable name or face. To which I think the best suited choice would be either B.D. WONG or LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS.

Kim: Kim would be the character directors would probably gamble with and pick an UNKOWN. Lea Solanga's already too old--it's stated in the script she's 17-21. The best chance would be to do a world-wide search as they did for the original stage production.

Ellen: Ellen and Chris should be played by young-adult actors, I've heard a request for Minnie Driver and Emmy Rossum. One's too old and the other's too young. My picks for Ellen include someone who's new to the scene with a new show Veronica Mars--KRISTEN BELL. My other choice is a veteran to TV Drama, NEVE CAMPBELL. They are or look the right age and are known to have phenomenal voices.

Chris: This is the character that will bring in all the people. This actor should be the bankable star...preferable someone in the top 100 hottest list. At the same time this actor still needs legitimate acting and singing skills; therefore, my Hollywood pick would be CHRIS EVANS (a former stage actor who did his own singing in Not Another Teen Movie), or JAKE GYLLENHAAL (A serious contender for the part of Christian in Baz Luhrman's musical Moulin Rouge).

John: When I saw Miss Saigon, the part of John was played wonderfully by a young African-American man. Now this may not be a criteria, but I feel that with racism playing a part of the story, a wider range of ethnicity would make better for the production in general. The part of John--like the Engineer--should also be played by a relatively known person. ANTWON TANNER is a former R&B singer and was a hit in the movie Coach Carter. And MICHAEL EALY was a Broadway singer/actor before he was seen in the popular movie Barbarshop.

Thuy: Thuy's part is very small so the actor's acting range is pretty limited. He's always angry. However, his vocal range is impressive. The actor can be unknown or vaguely memorable. PAOLO MANTALBAN was opposite of Brandy a couple years back in the TV movie Cinderella, and KEN LEUNG who appeared in the Tony award winning musical Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Gigi: This is an ideal part for a cameo. Gigi is only in for a small solo in The Heat is On and shares a duet for Movie in My Mind. The face of Gigi should be someone America can identify, and if LUCY LIU can truly sing as it is said in an above post, this part belongs to her. Another candidate would be the singing Asian from the classic Wayne's World: TIA CARRERE.

reply

ok, i think Lea should not be kim because even though she's absolutely fantastic and I adore her in the role, she's too old.....and you're all wrong! kim is 17, not 18! "i'm 17 and i'm new here today. the village i come from seems so far away......" i think Kim should be an unknown, non big name as in Phantom of the Opera and Gerry Butler (i love him!) Not trying to sound conceited, but someone like me should have the part.....for that matter, i would do it! but when i say someone like me, i mean, asian or part asian (i'm half Burmese), good English, young, small the reason i say small is I just have this mental image of Kim: small, but strong, tiny but tough, etc......

and i don't think it's nuts to suggest Ewan MacGregor for chris....actually i agree! He has the lead in Sunset Boulevard....it IS being made into a movie.......in fact, I think he'd be really good@! he's a great actor and he's sufficiently good-looking.

for John, I was thinking maybe matthew broderick, great voice, good actor, and although he IS slightly on the older side, i think that's almost an advantage because John is always kind of trying to help or hold back, or advise Chris or whatever.

for ellen, i was thinking Kelly Clarkson. the first time i heard the music, i thought to myself, kelly could do this really well!

thuy, i totally agree that Paolo Mantalban would be great

I agree that Gigi should be a cameo because she's not a very big part but a good way to attract moviegoers with a big name. i thought maybe Catherine Zeta-Jones. Absolutely beautiful, fantastic actress, good voice.....plus she could probably look asian if necessary.........

Everyone says Lea Salonga but in Miss Sagion acting is very important and Lea isn't a very good actress she has a good voice but i think they need someone with a strong voice and acting skills.I agree that Kerry Ellis should be Ellen she's amazing and very young, while Ruthie isn't so young.I'm not sure about Chris but i think Kim should be unknown, the engieer i say should be unknown Leo Valdez and Jon Jon are great but are movies there thing?

hey, i am in a production of miss saigon right now regionally, i think that it could defenetly be adapted into an on location movie. it'd be great. lea salonga is too old though to be kim in the movie she's 34, twice the age of kim in the beginning. les mis though, also should be made into a movie on location.
