Token White Guy

Couldn't they have had just ONE token white guy who wasn't a villain? Don't get me wrong, i thought the movie was hilarious and well done. . . .but not ONE cracker who wasn't a crooked cop, mobster, or racial slur slinging bigot?

though this is a comedy it was a fictional account how the underground crime scene had racism back in the glory days of gangsters

BUT I guess you forgot about the fake cops that helped them steal the money

BECAUSE....that is how it was in Harlem, back in the 1930's, 40's, 50's,
60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, etc.

I'm sure you get my meaning!!!

The cops were straight up racist! The laws DID NOT protect black people
back then, especially, black men; pretty much like in some instances,
THEY DON'T protect them today!!

The white police force (not all of them) were crooked; because there was
a lot of money to be made in Harlem from the numbers rackets, and a lot
of them were on the take; through Dutch Schultz, etc.

Remember this was pretty much during the depression, and Harlem
was the Land of Milk & Honey for a lot of white people at that time!

Don't forget that the elite white rich came to Harlem to see some of
the most beautiful and talented women (black women)and black men in the world!

When they came to Harlem,(clubs owned by whites), they spent lots of money.
As a result, the white clubs that did not have black entertainment struggled to be successful!

You stand corrected "rmanuel123"..
As others have stated, the two white cops who turned out to be with Sugar & Quick.
Several white patrons of Sugar Ray's.
Richie (dude sleeping with Sunshine) was not a bad guy at all though he worked for Calhoun.

Historically though, that's pretty much how Harlem operated in the 20s & 30s... people still draw these silly color lines today.

The white cops at the end turned out not to be cops but working for Sugar and Quick...Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy respectively. and Were not working for Cantone..Danny Aiello. Theres 2 for ya.

Honestly that would be stupid to do that. This was taking place during a time when cops would drop racist slurs like no ones business. And yes they had two cops that helped them and were white. What is going on here? This was about gangsters vs. gangsters, and everyone keeps seeing this black vs. white. I must have seen a different movie.

In the 1930s??? Good luck! I'm sure that "racial slur slinging bigots" was about 98% of the US population at that time. The movie was just being Realistic.

reply

That's how whites are in real life. Minus the Mobster thing.

You do understand this took place in the 1930's, right?

Don't be a moron. At least when people do this for "white" movies, it make a little sense.

No one Gives it to you...you have to take it
