Only a 5.1?

This movie has been one of my favorites since it came out. It's a movie that was a once very funny comedy because of the overused 'f' word that was so prevalent in stand-up routines and all of the foul, repetitive language. But I think that over time I consider it as a comedy/drama first and a comedy second. The costumes are great, the setting is one that hasn't been overused, and it's really unique. I just think that it is something more easily defined as 'cult' than anything else. It's really more intense and I think the reason people are disappointed is because they are expecting to laugh the entire way through. I think the actors would have wanted to be taken more seriously first and funny second.

Btw, this is the lowest rated film that I own.

Any thoughts?

I used to watch this movie when I was younger, and just bought the DVD a couple of days ago (watching it right now). I also couldn't believe the 5.1, this movie is really good!

i totally agree. I got this movie @ Wal-Mart for $5 which was nice. But you have some of the best comedians in their prime in this film. Red Foxx,Richard Pryor, and Eddie Murphy.as far as comedies go id give this @ least a 7.5 or an 8.but this is up there w/ beverly hills cop and coming to america.

This is avery underrated movie.It was nominated for Razzie awards and *beep* I liked it.It was a pretty funny and entertaining Eddie Murphy movie and I liked it.It was pretty good considering it was the first movie Eddie Murphy directed.However a lot of people dont like it so that's why its rated so low.Acutally im suprised its not rated lower.

The score really wasn't a big deal to me.

What really hurt was the Razzie Award for Worst screenplay and nomination for worst director. That was probably the best writing Eddie Murphy has done for a movie and the only one he directed.

It beats norbit and a lot of other crap movies he has done. :(

Wow. I am sure you thought son of the mask was amazing as well, because they both shared a similar attribute: They both had sh*tty Scripts.

Yes...this movie was very funny and very well done thats why I don't trust the rating on IMDB that much anymore....I (barely) watched Munich and that has a very high rating but it wasnt even good.... and also benchwarmers that sucked as$.
