Always had this question if anyone can help.......( Spoliers )

At the end when they finally catch Michael Myers and he is in jail......Why is he still wearing his mask? When the police catch you and put you in jail would they really let you still wear your creepy mask? Any thoughts?

I guess they didn't want to show his face, so they left it on. Nope, the police would take your creepy mask. I think it's dumb. It's also dumb that Michael plays with the chains to his shackles while sitting there. I love this movie, but it's so very stupid.

The audio commentary asks the same thing. It doesn't make sense, except, that you're never supposed to see Michael unmasked you can see his eye, a shadow and Don Shanks in the beginning as he rises up (no wig, burn make up nothing) guess they never expected technology to clear that up so much. In any event, it was for story purposes. It was stupid, but you just can't have an unmasked Michael in a jail cell. Wouldn't work. Granted this movie was rushed less than a year between it and 4 and the script wasn't done and changed multiple times during filming (Dr. Death opening, painting the tattoo, actually showing the clinic massacre, etc.) it was just a rushed, sloppy movie. But I forgive it because 6 took too long, too many versions (Tarantinio, theatrical/producer's cuts) so between the 2 less is more and 5 is slightly better.

Producer's Cut bothers me for 3 reasons. 1. They took away Michael's first family kill since Judith. Wynn shoots her with a gun? In a hospital with metal detectors (probably). That was a huge loss. 2. Tommy's blood rocks and chant to stop Michael. That was the silliest/stupidest thing I'd ever seen. 3. The ending. The world knew Pleasence was dead and Loomis died with him, rendering it moot. Which is why they changed it. Even then, where was it going to go? The only family left Stephen, departed for parts unknown "As far away from Haddonfield as possible" so how would they find them? And Loomis being the bad guy? Nuh un. Doesn't work.

But otherwise, it does have it's moments. Like the new Sheriff after Meeker.

I always hated that ending scene!

While of course I agree with others how *dumb* it is that they let him keep his mask, I'll make an argument within the 'realm' of the film:

Perhaps the cops were THAT afraid of Michael! They just did not even want to touch him, wanted to get him locked up in any way they could....as fast as they could!

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

My guess is they were still creeped out or scared and rightfully so.
